Movies 2010

Post by Over43 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 4:53 am

I have seen a few this year, some new, some old.

The Expendables was good, once. :o

I liked The American. 8)

Get Him to the Greek I thought was vomitous. (My brother said it was better than the Hang Over, not so much.)

I saw Skyline. Don't you guys go see it. Save your money.

I don't see many movies, but I did enjoy Crazy Heart and The American. I watched Time Traveler's Wife over the weekend (I will watch almost anything with Eric Bana...). It was okay, but I was glad I borrowed it from the library for free. ;)

I finally got round to watching Avatar yesterday. I quite liked it, but it really reminded me of a cartoon film my kids used to watch called 'Ferngully'.

Salt II? Not the arms agreement. I just watched Salt with Ms. Jolie. If you saw it, you probably realized the ending was open ended. Apparently she is planning on doing a sequel. Good.

I only saw one movie really in 2010...I'm not a big movie person. Committing two hours to one show on a screen is really unappealing for me. And the one movie I saw was Black Swan because my mother and sister really wanted to see it and dragged me along and I spent half of it covering my eyes during the freaky/frightening/creepy scenes.

I've never seen Avatar but if I'd known it was like Ferngully I might have watched it! I still watch that movie sometimes and I'm 23  It's pretty excellent.

I want to see the King's Speech. I saw True Grit b/c everyone else wanted to go. I was depressed for three days afterward. I don't do well with "dark" movies.

Battle LA last Friday. Not bad, kind of an Independence Day remake, but entertaining. A popcorn movie if you will.

Three more movies for 2011. One on Direct TV, two at the theatres. I enjoyed all three.

The Tourist: Didn't get a lot of love, but I liked it. Won't go into too much detail for those who haven't seen it, but it was suspenseful with just the right amount of humor.

The Lincoln Lawyer: This has been the best movie I have seen Matthew McConaghy (sp) in, in quite sometime. This makes up for Fool's Gold and a few of the other stinkers he's been involved with. Plus Marisa Tomei is always a plus.

Arthur: I vaguely remember Dudley Moore's version. Russell Brand is quite funny, and did a good job being convincing as the manchild. If anything the characters were a bit underdeveloped, but it was fun.

Source Code - I like films that play with time, so really enjoyed most of this. Not sure about the ending, though....

I hope Water for Elephants is as good as the book! anyone see it yet?
did anyone hear a film was being made of The Help?? I think The Time Traveler's Wife made a lot more sense if you read the book before seeing it.. isn't that usually the case?

An older film, 2003, German made, "As Far as my Feet Will Carry Me".

About a German prisoner of war in the Soviet Union who walks to the Middle East after escaping.

It is somewhat reminiscent of SÅ‚awomir Rawicz's "The Long Walk". A lot of "experts" critisized Rawicz story saying "it couldn't have happened", but since the fall of the Soviet Union (according to Bauer who was the author As Far as my Feet Will Carry Me) there have been apparently a few former German soldiers who have claimed to have walked out of Siberian gulags. They kept quiet fearing the KGB would try to have them assassinated. (You never knew about that Uncle Joe...)

Aside from all of that it is on Netflix. In German with English subtitles.

Missed Zoo Keeper so far. I have caught Pirates of the Caribbean IV, Super 8 was incredible, and another movie I can't think of at the moment (?).

This isn't a movie and it came out probably 4 or 5 years ago, but....

"Ellen Degeneres - Here and Now"......one of her stand-up comedy skits.

OMG....I haven't laughed that hard in I don't know how long. She's hilarious! She can make the everyday stuff SO funny!!!

Moneyball was...very good. I grew up in Northern California so it was also a bit nostalgic for me.

The Three Muskateers...

I was expecting better, much better. Especially from Matthew McFadden. My to 12 year olds liked it though.

I am looking forward to Sherlock Holmes.

Skyfall, it is advertised as the best Bond yet. It might be.

I am going to try to see Lincoln this weekend. I want to see Killing Them Softly as well.

I can wait for Red Dawn to hit Red Box. I can't imagine they improved the 1984 version.
