Re: Larkspur's check-in

Auto: This is what I did. I meditated at 5:30 in the morning right after dragging myself out of bed. It felt like a continuation of sleep and to some degree it was :) But it connected me with this warm, good feeling in my body which is how I learned to like it. I find that I have kind of "learned" i...

Realizing I shoot past fullness at every meal. I eat fast, which is part of the issue. I also don't seem to hold as much. My goal today was to end up in the green on the full-o-meter. I do that-- the 16/8 time restricted eating thing. It's more like 15/9 most days. I found it cleared up some inflammatory issues (it appears leaky gut is an Actual Thing) and when maintained, helps me not gain weight during the holidays. So-- 1. Spike in weight lately. Yeah, I have trouble seeing alternate day fasting as a lifestyle. Whatever you do to lose fat has to be sustainable, or why bother, and personally I could not groove on that, though I've read some people like it. Under the heading of unasked-for advice, have you tried resistance training? I'm convin...

LOL! Tennessee is pretty far! One of the nice parts of retirement, I'm sure-- not having to worry about that anymore! Thanks for the good wishes :) So I am intrigued by a new podcast (Cut the Fat by Ray Hinish) I ran into yesterday. I have read (as many of us have) *a lot* on weight loss science. So...

Hey Kathleen-- I have just the same issue. I don't have much trouble adhering to a 16 hour period when I don't eat (half of that I'm asleep, after all!) So that's interesting, right? If I want sweets, for example, why don't I yearn for them when it's my fasting time? It has been fairly easy to do wh...

So I got the call that I had been worried about, so I am much happier. The next step in that process is not until May, so I'm hoping that I can kick up my heels a little bit between now and then. My insecurity has receded for now, but I don't want to get too comfortable, if that makes sense-- one fo...

Hope your husband is liking NYC! I think that's insightful about the crying-- I think it's probably good that we don't all react like model citizens all the time. I was attempting to make a dr appt with my daughter's disorganized practice. I think the scheduler was accustomed to taking the offensive...

LOL Jen :) I think it's presenting a child that reminds parents of their own kid. As far as kids go, I think the change in activity has been a factor. I don't think small bursts do much toward managing weight, but that low-grade all day activity really does. We forget that people, especially young p...

Hope all is more peaceful on the home front. It seems to be the nature of being human not to have everything pulled together all at once. I think it's true that time restricted eating is good for body composition. My son and husband haven't lost a lot of pounds but they are definitely leaner. My very weight and appearance conscious SIL pronounced my husband "not overweight" at her last visit :)

I am job hunting and things are not going according to my expectation-- I don't think my expectations were unreasonable, but things don't always work out the way you want. If it helps, I think time restricted eating (I try to use that term as less triggering for people than the F word :)) does a lot towards healing the gut and lowering inflammation and blood sugar. Sometimes it's helpful to remember it's not always and eternally about the weight (for me anyway!) I hav...

I often wonder how much of slim vs not has to do with genetics/metabolism, and how much with "getting into a thing." Does your sister go light on the chocolates because her body isn't prompting her to eat more, or because they don't have the "you mustn't" label on them, or because when she does eat ...

Butterfly, if it helps, I do agree there is a mental component, but I wouldn't discount the physical habit. If you're used to eating a certain time, your body ramps up a symphony of hormones and responses, and it's not happy when the expectation does not materialize! You really truly can train yours...

Awesome, Oolala. I love the just-a-bit approach-- I have a book about it, and I can't remember the name (change of life brain). I do one Sun Salutation a day. Just one, but it makes a difference. So-- A solid A for exercise this week. A little off on the 16 hour fasting window b/c of Daylight Saving...
