Alternate sides

This one can be adapted to any routine. It consists of changing side with each rep. For example instead of doing 50 shovels to the right then 50 shovels to the left, do 1 to the right, then 1 to the left 50 times. - Since you don't get into a repetitive motion you are less likely to use momentum to ...

Re: Mixed routines

Here's my daily workout (weekdays only): 11 minutes of 5bx exercises (Royal Canadian Air Force- includes 50 "good mornings", 40 crunches, 30 push-ups, 6 minutes of running in place & jumping jacks) ( http://www.idmclient.com/gettingfit/5bx.php ) The bottom of that page contains a trick to count rep...

I too have started incorporating a mixed routine together, after reading some of the tutorials on http://www.beastskills.com/tutorials.htm Namely, the ab wheel and the planche for the midsection, to complement shovelglove which works the upper back. Interestingly the guy at beastskills also uses a s...

It's not the back that's a problem (after lifting three babies I've got a back of steel) but my shoulder and right elbow. Got some other stretches for me?? Z. Actually this stretch works the back of your shoulders too, have you tried it? I don't know specific stretches for elbows, but ask google. T...

Re: Hammermania DVD

I am wondering if it is it worth the almost $40... I woudn't give a dime to someone who steals the workout Reinhard put out for free, renamed it, and tries to sell it for a profit. Besides, who in the world wants to look like that guy on the DVD? Give him a helmet and a beard and with his huge sled...

Re: 10 minutes

Maybe it's 'cause I'm a girl: when I shovelglove 14 minutes every weekday, I get aches and pains by the end of the week. After each session, do the following stretch and hold it for a minute: http://home.earthlink.net/~fitness_habit/images/image012.gif It will loosen up your shoulders and upper back.

Reinhard,
It seems your idea is taking off and others smell the opportunity.
Now may be a good time to consider publishing a manual about shovelgloving. Aside from popularizing your concept, this will reduce the risk of shovelglove being plagiarized by getting the name out there on paper.

I weed some out manually. I've coded some primitive spam blocking which gets most of it, but there's A LOT, and enough gets through for it to be a pain. I'm sure there's some patch I could apply that would block spam more efficiently... too many technologies to consider to consider any of them! Do ...

A wikki has been proposed before.... I'll look into it. One big concern I have is I don't want another redundant user account system. But I'm sure someone has hacked something to make phpbb accounts work with wikkis... The other concern I have is having the time to properly administer it. I can bar...

Kayvan, I do the whole thing in the fourteen minutes, with a few seconds to spare. I am wondering what to do to go to the next level, however. The routine is starting to become just a tad stale. Any suggestions? ---Kayvan Kayvan, Same here and one thing I've done is substitute the exercise I found ...

Stretches after shovelglove session

Can you recommend any stretches after shovelglove session? I'm usually getting a little stiff in the shoulders and neck. One neck stretch that works for me is as follows: sitting down, wrap your arm vertically above and around your head and pull your head gently tilting sideways towards your arm. It...

Re: Steve Justa on workouts for Fat Burning

If I tried lifting like this, my joints would throb and ache, I'd get kicked out of grad school, and my wife would leave me. That is, if the workload didn't kill me. More power to Steve Justa, though. I've really gotta hand it to him. 3 decades in the iron game and a lifetime of manual labor really...

Re: 4 months in, first time post, a few silly questions

So a few silly questions. First off, I know doing weights 5x a week is frowned on, and we might even get 'better results' if it was toned down to 3x a week.... Those who used to shovel coal for a living did this at least 5 days a week. Granted they died early but of black lungs, not physical exhaus...
