It is a great name, if a little extreme. The clarity bit is certainly right on. I just quibble with where she draws that "bright line."

Re: SPAM hit list

The good news is new spam has stopped as far as I can see with the upgrade. The bad news is we've got quite a backlog, and part of the reason new spam has stopped is I have to approve new accounts and I just haven't... probably not a sustainable solution. I know some of you have offered to be modera...

Yes, it did break with the upgrade this weekend -- I'm sorry. It should be working again now, with the caveat that it now has a separate login system (it's still using the old bulletin board login system because I can't figure out how to connect it the new one). Sorry about that -- I didn't realize that disabling the boards would prevent regular users from logging in at all (it let me in because I was admin). Due to massive spam, I recently upgraded the bulletin board, and have it configured so that I have to approve all new users. The problem? Welcome, Mandu!

Love "Praise the Lord." May have to try that!

Thanks for sharing your routine (though I'm a little frightened at the sound of "hail Reinhard!").

Best of luck in the honeymooon period and beyond, and please keep us posted,

I've been doing the "eccentric chin ups" every day in March, just a few (3 actually) but I think it's actually helping. So hard to tell with these things. The truth is what I feel now isn't so much of a pain or actual discomfort as an unpleasant "awareness" of the spot, a kind of sensitivity which I...

Wow, this is too perfect, and from Brian Wansink no less (I cite him repeatedly in the book with evidence supporting the other "esses," but this is the first I've heard from him regarding weekends).

I was struck by something LouMay wrote in her recent testimonial: I have been telling everyone about this - but I found no one seems to really believes it can work to start with. There seems to be a disbelief that you can eat 'normally' and lose weight! They only starting to be interested once I had...

Congratulations, LouMay! And thanks for letting us know. Yes, one of my favorite things about No-s is its unobtrusiveness, how easily it slides into your existing life without making obvious ripples (though it does make some subtle ripples that can in time be quite beneficial in other, seemingly unr...

Hi beginagain, There are many options! The fact that you've got N days down is a big deal and gives you a solid foundation to work on. And it's great that you've got the exercise component in place too. Here are a few suggestions -- I'd start with the smallest, clearest, most moderate change, as it ...

Nice. I've been laying off "shovel" and "armwrestle" entirely this week, but haven't noticed a difference. I may lay off them for the rest of the month, just to see. I haven't tried the eccentric chin ups yet... might make that next months experiment, depending on how this month's goes. Nice to have...

Only when work was closed and there so there wasn't any work to walk to. For the last almost 20 years, I've lived walking distance from my various jobs. There have been times when I drove because I had to do some kid pickup from an event after or something, but not because of the weather (even if I ...

Oh it was just fine.

(Thanks for your concern though!)

Schools were closed but the library was open!

It's been a good week for "applied shovelglove," though, between this storm and the last one!

I use the "rubber truncheon" in 3 ways: 1. I do this hard to describe twist exercise that supposedly strengthens some compensatory muscles (14 reps). Lots of videos on youtube how to do this, here's one I consulted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P-QOaCoDWY At first it felt hard to get this moveme...

OK, sorry for the delayed, promised follow up! What I do for my "uppy elbow" (which I'm still convinced was caused by excessive compliance with my toddlers incessant, whining requests to be picked up) is this: 1. mostly stick with shorter rep count routines. Either 14 or 7. 2. "warm up" for each wor...

Thanks for this update, startgoat. I got my uppy elbow under control in a slightly different way, but the fact that at least two of us have experienced this here means it probably isn't just a fluke: this is definitely something to watch out for in shovelglove. What strikes me as odd is I didn't not...

What is the best thing about the No S Diet? It's hard to pick, there are so many. Nettee just posted a list in a recent testimonial post (4 months on habit, 14 pounds down) which I think contains my favorite: "Thinking about the diet very little - escaping the obsession that is required for some oth...

tlingit just posted a very thoughtful testimonial describing a successful first year on no-s. I love this. Puts No S more in the company of yoga and meditation than traditional "diets," and I think that's altogether appropriate. On one level, it's a form of re-ritualized eating, with a zen-minimalist aesthetic. It's not surprise that it can be calming and grounding, apart from its direct phy...
