Nutrition, and I just realized

I know we all have interesting and varied backgrounds that we bring to this terrific diet. I have been a mostly healthful eater for the past 9 years or so, so when I started No-s-ing, I was thrilled to see I could have anything I wanted except sweets; just no more than one plate! But then it still b...

KCCC, I agree with you (in principle, at least!) but gaining weight (or also belly as in my case!) is discouraging if done right off the bat. I am also reading Dawn's thread and enjoying it immensely. I will TRY to not tweak the diet for a month, but I will also TRY not to be a pig on S days!

Thank you. I did study Rose's very helpful chart (thank you, Rose!) and do find it impressive. But I really think I personally need just a little more structure on S days; I'm not sure what. I understand how it is a big danger to impose unsustainable rules, and do not want to do that. But it was ver...

Tues.

Got my green! I feel like a kid receiving a sticker for being good. But that's why I actually did my housework today--to get my green box on the habitcal for doing so! I am hungry and can't wait until my body is used to the 3 meals a day habit. Since I already have eaten very similarly to this, I'm ...

My experience is similar to yours, stevecooper. Also, I had been greatly influenced by all the diet gurus out there who insist that we do need to eat 5 million times a day for our bodies to work correctly. So I had settled (several years ago) on a 3:00 and an 8:00 daily snack. Boy, did I get used to...

I love the simplicity and common sense of this diet. I love the writing style and lack of ego of its author. I see how it can work long-term. But I'm on Day 10. I gained three pounds over the weekend. Unlike Reinhard's, my weight is usually very stable at 124 pounds. I'm a fairly small middle-aged f...

Jesseco's Check In

I've never done something like this before! This is my ninth day on the No S diet. My first seven days (started Sat. March 22) were terrific! Yesterday (Day Eight) was my third S day and not so good. I posted about that and received helpful support. Today was Day 9 and not so bad as yesterday. I ate...

Question about plate size and gender

I'm a fairly small female with a pretty good appetite. I'm not overweight, but do not want to gain and would love to lose about 5 pounds. If I'm eating 3 plates a day and 170 pound males are too, will I end up at 170 pounds? I'm actually a little bit terrified that I might gain some weight!

And if I don't allow myself to get so caught up on this website now (I'd better do Luddite), I will have more time to do housework and other things I keep procrastinating about, thanks to the diet's clear boundaries!

They sound like "borderline" food to me. So I think it is your call. And I think that if you like them and want to use them, you should, whether it's for N or S days. Since they are high in protein, I might go ahead and use them on N days. I admit to using stevia (and some artificial sweeteners) in ...

I just had an idea that I think I will try on S days! Several months ago, while doing an online Bible study regarding food issues, I gave up having snacks. That was very hard for me, as for some years I have had a 3:00 and an 8:00 snack. My snacks were usually healthful, but tended to get too calori...

Hi blueskighs, thanks for sharing that you also struggle with similar issues. I guess my misery really does like company! Volume is a huge trigger for me, too. I'm trying to think about what went right last weekend--I think it was that I kept mostly to the "no seconds" rule, but allowed myself sever...

That piece of cake

This is my second Saturday S day. Last weekend went very well, even though I have a history of eating disordered behaviors--occasional bingeing and before that, anorexic-like behaviors. I also try to eat healthfully, but have done some obsessive things, like extreme calorie, etc. counting. Well, I t...

tommi, I was thinking of meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, and lima beans! That was a common meal for both my husband and myself when we were growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, and it is "comfort food" for us now. Of course, the potatoes and limas are "high-carb", which does not help with my hus...

I'm experiencing something like blueskighs. The "rules" have actually helped me to calm down about treats! 2. Spending time with a friend or family member you haven't seen in a long time makes a day (or at least that part of the day) special as far as I'm concerned. Why would you need to? One of the joys of No-S is that you CAN eat a normal restaurant meal.
I'd need to if she wanted to have a dessert and then I would want one, too!

Things in a bowl

I often eat oatmeal and turkey sausage or bacon for breakfast (before this diet). Is it o.k. to put the bowl on a large plate so that I can put my bacon or sausage next to it? Same with a bowl of soup. If I want that and a sandwich (or 1/2 sandwich if a whole one won't fit), is that o.k.? I'm afraid...

Carrot salad (slaw)

I really don't know what to do with this! Because I am a generally healthful eater, I often have substituted this dish for dessert in the past (before this diet). I'm sure it has quite a bit of sugar in it, but it's mostly carrots, raisins, and I guess mayo. Would you eat it on an N day? It's probab...

Questions about NWS days

The book says to try to keep non-weekend special days to two per month. I have 2 questions.

1. Is it o.k. to have more than two?

2. Is it "kosher" to use one for a restaurant lunch with someone you haven't seen for a long time? (That's not a holiday, religious day, or birthday.)

Thanks!
