I liked the "dramtic reading", it helps to set the mood.
And a small variatin (that I'll try when doing "Aim the spear" in my training) is to imagine holding a shield in the other hand, and to keep the shield/hand between myself and the imaginary opponent.

When people are freaking out over how dangerous your hobbies are, one nasty trick is to compare the statistics. How many people are hurt doing your hobby? Compared to how many are hurt driving around in a car? Driving is a lot more dangerous, when the numbers are compared, even when compansating for...

My theory is that with a heavy hammer the movements are more lifting than swinging. Even when doing moves that go from side to side, with the heavier hammer it's more turning than swinging. When swinging, the increased speed makes the core work harder at starting the swing and at stopping the swing....

From heavy shovelglove to a lighter
Just thought I'd share some things I've noticed when going from a heavy SG to a (much) lighter model. It feels like the lighter model is a harder workout on the core (stomach and back). Not so that it feels like I'm about to hurt myself, just a more intense workout. The heavier SG was harder on the ...

Just a short update, the homemade hammer has been retired. The handle started to come loose. Not in a dramatic, weight flying across the room way. But now it's possible to "wiggle" the handle without the weight moving. So after about one year of service, the homemade hammer has entered service as a ...

The way I understand it, the risk of cheating by shugging twice some days, is that i could lead to the thinking "I did it twice yesterday, so I can skip today", or even worse "I can skip today, and make up for it by going twice tomorrow". That would break the habit, and that is a bad thing. If you'r...

Depending on how big your lunch is, you could try to make something like this (furoshiki, japanese "bag" tied of a piece of cloth): http://www.instructables.com/id/Furoshiki-2-Have-Earth-Want-to-Keep-It/ ...and hang it on the outside of your laptop bag. Or if you have too much money, you could by a ...

Photofiltre is one program that I have used a little bit. Easier than Photoshop and Gimp, but more limited. But if Photofiltre does enough, then it is free (as in beer, I think) for personal use.

I noticed that I've been doing "flip the lever" wrong. Well, maybe not wrong, but in a different way. Instead of swinging the head of the shovelglove until it's straight out, I let it swing until it's straight up. But my forearm is still parallell to the floor. When the shovelglove is pointing to th...

Re: Things I have learned already
This is something I learned quickly as well. For me, it was churn butter and ... well, it's a bit embarassing, but let's just call it "not my head".Meg wrote:

I know the iPod was sort of out of the question, and I don't really like the restrictions apple puts on it. But the way I see it is that Apple has made the complete tool-chain work great. From the device it self, to the sync with iTunes and finally to the iTunes Music Store for buying music/books/et...

I only know what I've heard from others, and they say it's great. I kind of feel that the thing with the ski-poles might just be a big headfake. When walking with the poles, you tend to keep a higher pace, take longer steps and you use your arms more. If you can do all those things without the poles...

If you knew you were going to drop stone dead at any time, what would you stop doing now? :) f I feel kind of stupid for replying to your post, one thing I probably would stop doing if I knew I'd be dead in the next week is replying to stuff on various internet forums... I'm very carefull with my homemade hammer, for a number of reasons. Number one, It's heavy and I don't want to pull anything. Two, it's heavy and I don't want to hit anything. Three, I know who made it... But pictures? Sure, the pictures are not that great, but I hope they can be seen at: http://pic...

Homemade hammer
Hello, just joined this forum, and thought it might polite to introduce myself with the story of my home-made shovelglove. For about two (maybe three?) month ago I started doing the shovelglove workout. But to do that, I needed a hammer. And since I'm ... what's the word? You know, when you want to ...
