Getting the legs involved.

When I was taking Tai Chi the "form" was taught movement by movement. We were taught to be very mindful of performing the movement in a particular manner. In fact it was one of the reasons Tai Chi is performed slowly. I was told the idea is this helps build up a muscle memory so that IF you need to ...

I understand. I just think if I increase reps in the sets it pushes the muscles a little harder to get stronger. It seems that slowly the fatigue point gets pushed pack, so I try to push forward a little at a time to meet it. For example, I was doing 7 reps of shoveling and pretty much in each repit...

Well, I had an unusual winfall. I was at a flea market this weekend and happened upon 2 identical digital pedometers still in their boxes. They look a bit dated and the batteries were dead, but I got them for $1 USD each! I just got the battery today, so we'll see how it goes. It accepts my stride l...

Does this sound about right?

So I've been doing shovelglove a couple of weeks and I've slowly been tinkering with my routine. I was just wondering if someone can tell me if this sounds like a decent routine for a novice. I just increased some reps today. Okay, this is my routine: Shovel 14 each side (28 total) Churn Butter 14 e...

Sometimes I wear my daughter's Pikachu Tamagachi(sp?) it acts as a pedometer. I would like to get one of my own though. It would be nice to have one that measures both steps and mileage. I know it can be done, but I don't know if they make any that do it. basically all you have to do is input the le...

I just picked up my very first MP3 player. It is a Transcend T. Sonic 630. It is a 2 gigabite player/recorder and it was $50. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3298438&CatId=2761 I have only had it a few days, but so far I quite like it. One of the features I...

Diet or Lifestyle?

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but this popped into my head while responding to another thread. The use of the word "diet" is interresting. It really has a couple of meanings, and they are related, but different. Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This diÂ...

I don't see why you even bring up a term like "Start again." It sounds like you never stopped the No-S diet. You just took your vacation as S days. now go back to N days. Be realistic. The No S Diet is NOT a weight loss diet. It is a lifestyle change that happens to have an overall effect of reducin...

I like Tea and Coffee both sweetened and unsweetened. It really depends on my mood. My family RARELY buys soda anymore. My kids drink mostly water, milk and fruit juices and I usually drink water or coffee, and sometimes beer or tea, and RARELY iced tea or lemonade (off brand crystal lite equivelant...

Alright, today I hit the 1 week mark and I'm tweaking my set a bit. Today I experimented, and I wrote down a new set. Shovel (7 reps each side) Churn Butter (7 per) *Drilling Stone* (7 per) [1]Flip Lever (7 per) Tuck Bails (7 per) [2]Ab Killer (7 per) Hoist Sack (14 per side. 7 was too easy) [3]Turn...

I'm sorry to keep hammering the forum with posts, but my memory is a bit sporatic, and some thoughts I had while scouring your site have just come back. First, I'd like to compliment Reinhard on choosing to model his workout on good old fassioned WORK. I can't tell you how many times I've longed to ...

Fireman and Driving Fence Posts?

I'm having a little trouble discerning the difference between these movements from the descriptions and the videos. The only obvious difference I see is that the Fireman doesn't bring the hammer head down as far as Fence Posts. Am I missing something? I DO see the difference between fence posts and ...

Thanks for the welcome and advice! An N-daily little bit is vastly preferable than sporadic bouts of heroism I'm not quite sure I understand you here, but I do understand "Be consistant." New practitioner checking in.

Well, I registered for the forum a couple days ago, and rather than be labeled a lurker I thought I'd say hello. A bit about myself. I'm a 38 year old male who has been diagnosed with high cholestorol and high blood bressure, and I'm told I'm about 100lbs overweight. I am 5' 11" and about 290lbs. My...
