This morning, my upper back is completely cramped and uncomfortable. I'm afraid to do another shovelglove session because I feel it might hurt my back. Been there brother. With every day systems I continualy think of the 1870's-1940's blue collar worker and ask myself what they would do. Yeah those...

Sledgehammers make great gifts

Back in early December I casually mentioned to my mother on a couple of occasions that I was thinking of upgrading to a 16 pound sledge for my shovelgloving within a couple of months. She's often late with Christmas gifts so I wasn't surprised when a shiny new 16 pounder materialized yesterday. I ha...

I have a pair of ice grippers that I put on my boots that way I don't need too worry as much about falling on ice. Here's a couple of products. I use the get-a-grip, but I've heard some good stuff about the yaktrax as well. http://www.basegear.com/gripadvanced.html http://www.yaktrax.com/ As for the...

I mainly shugg in a pair of ugly old Crocs. I figure in the very unlikely case I drop the hammer on my foot the extra cushion would help. Don't do it nude, although I prefer to be shirtless because my movements are a little more fluid that way.

Should count, you're getting there under your own power. I used to live 1/2 a mile from my work, it took me 5 minutes door to door. If I wasn't in a hurry and the weather was nice I'd add an extra ten minutes or so to get a good energy boost. Not practical now, I'd have to go thru heavy traffic and ...

Yeah, I think I remember that from the Science Times podcast. That's the big difference with shovelglove, we aren't taking a couple of minutes rest between sets and allowing our heart rate can go back down.

Thanks guys, doing good now. The centrifugal forces of the rotation draw the hammerhead away from me so there was no real danger of hitting myself with it. But there was so much force in the move that a bad grip on the handle jerked my back, which has enjoyed a few other zings in the past. So yeah, ...

Force = mass x acceleration

Newton gave us this handy little equation, and while messing around with a non-canon shovelglove move I learned to respect it. Essentially, I went to a secluded part of a local park early one morning last week to shugg and to add in some overhead swings against the trunk of a fallen tree. To warm up...

Stoke the oven seems to hit my wrists quite a bit as well. A few days ago I also had extra wrist pain while shoveling, a quick assessment of my form revealed that I was twisting my wrist somewhat when "throwing" the load. I was careful thereafter to put most of the twist in my torso and a little in ...

I attempted the flip level and scratch the back, but failed  Maybe when the other moves have strengthened me up a bit, eh? Welcome to shugging Neptunus. Flip the lever and hoist the sack are isolation exercises for the biceps and triceps. Tuck the bales and butter churn will also work the tri...

I make a homemade Chili that I find very filling. Two or three times a month I whip up a big batch of the stuff which has lean ground beef for protein and soaked dry beans for fiber. One batch is good for 6-7 individual meals, I also add fresh bell pepper and onion to every bowl for even more nutrit...

I just got thru with my first week of shugging and while I can say that I didn't feel any burn the following day for the first couple of times, I do feel the burn from yesterday, the last day in a 5 day set. I lifted conventional weights for a couple of years but I believe that shovelglove more accu...

Picked up my hammer on Friday,a 12 pounder. Went thru a training period yesterday and just finished my first 14 minute set a few minutes ago. Let it be said to doubters that this is rigorous exercise. I most certainly can feel it all over my trunk and upper body. The fourteen minutes goes fast, I se...

Hello Justme, You'd better believe that 100 pounds can be dropped. I dropped 80 pounds a couple of years ago. I still have 40 to go, which brings me here. I lost by cutting out really horrible and not especially tasty food like Twinkies and by increasing exercise; even with 40 to go I look and feel ...

Welcome! I think it's safer to start on the low side. And I think you'll find it surprisingly challenging, at least initially. The power of leverage makes 12 pounds heavy indeed. I wasn't in the greatest shape when I started with a 12 pounder, but I'm a "big boned" six footer and it stayed reasonab...

Spliting the S Days

I'm thinking about starting the NoS in a few days. My problem is that I work crazy hours, including weekends. I've taken note that Monday's and Wednesdays seem to be my big eating out days, so to simplify things I figured I'd just split the S days so I could keep my normal habits on those days. I sh...

Casual weightlifter starting shovelglove

Hello everyone, I just discovered the systems a few days ago, it was one of those rare times where everything really resonated with me. It immediately felt true, and after thinking about it my initial impression remained. So I'm starting shovelglove on Friday, after I pick up a sledgehammer. I've be...
