I've heard of the "what the hell" effect (or WTH) before, but in a different context. I have read about it on a kettlebell web-site and it was used for people who had unexpected results due to exercise. So I guess a no-s/everyday system example would be say you start to do shovelglove every N day an...

Buffalo wings and pizza

So, I started No S - again. Don't know how many times I've tried and stopped (w/o any good excuses!), but it's less than the magic number of 12! I have been successful over the first 3 days but am feeling a little guilty. The guilt comes from the fact that for dinner on day 1, I got together w/ some...

I'm in. I'm on Day 3. Doing Vanilla, but trying to figure out how it really works doing third shift  Plus, hoping not to go too overboard w/ my birthday! Also, started training for a 5K using a couch to 5K app. 5K is the beginning of Aug. Have to do it as I promised my wife I would do it w/ he...

Back...again

I am back at it again. I finally have the mind set that I need to lose some weight. I'm not getting any younger and my kids aren't getting any less active! Plus, if there is something I can do to prevent becoming like some of my patients, then I want/need to do it. I was real close to (reluctantly) ...

No S and Third Shift?

So I have decided to start this again. I successfully did this 18 months ago for about 6 weeks and lost about 12 lbs or so. However, I had a lot going on in my life with a new job and starting nights. Now I am ready to throw caution to the wind and give it another go. However, I am not sure how No S...

Wed and Thurs were good days. My struggle now is dealing with working 3rd shift. My day usually goes like this: I come home from work and eat breakfast and then go to bed. I usually wake up around 4:30 or 5 and eat dinner w/ the family. I then take a nap and go to work at 10:30. So I'm basically get...

Thanks for the encouragement. Yesterday was much better, even with being home all day with the kids. Since I work nights, I thought I might have been tempted to snack or eat something in the middle of my shift, but I held off. I kept thinking of the quote from the book "hunger is the best sauce" or ...

Starting the daily check-in again. I failed on my first No S day after an S weekend. My lame excuse is golf league and lack of sleep. I had worked Sunday night and wasn't able to sleep most of Monday. Then I had golf league. I hadn't eaten much all day, so I ate something before league. At league, I...

My sister-in-law is always trying new diets and found the book at Barnes and Noble and gave us some highlights. Before I knew there was a web-site or before I even googled it, I went purchased the book. I gave it a shot starting in January of this year, started the HabitCal, did some daily postings,...

Starting up a second time

Well, here I am back at it again. I tried this for a couple of months and was quite successful. The HabitCal really helped! Then my schedule switched on my new job to nights and then the PC went on the fritz and next thing I know, I'm off the wagon :( . Thankfully, I haven't made it back to my start...

Check In

Have been pretty successful. Now looking at portion control. I don't think my portions are way out of whack, but still think they may be a little too large. So, the goal this week is portion control. I've also started a new workout routine and have entered a contest. They have a nutritional plan for...

2 more No S day successes! Even stared down the temptation of unlimited bread rolls, unlimited peanuts, and cookies! I did have a bread roll, but waited until my plate came and was able to add it to my plate without any problems!

I didn’t get off to a good start as my first N day was a failure. But, I am able to start over and at least I don’t have to go too far back to begin again! I was tempted to call it an S day (it was the Fiesta Bowl, and the Buckeyes were playing in it, after all), but I don’t want to get ...

GBRN Check in

Success on my first day - granted it was an S day. However, I didn't have seconds at any meal and, considering I did a lot of cooking for the week, I didn't take too many taste tests or nibbles. I did indulge in a cafe mocha and a small bowl of ice cream at the end of the day. Hoping for a good star...

A new guy

Alright, so here I (we) go. I've been wanting to take off the weight for quite a while, just not really motivated to do it, nor did I know how to go about it. Back before kids, my wife and I did the weight watchers thing. We both lost a significant amount of weight (I lost over 40 lbs) but alas were...
