I am starting to think that with the way your weight is fluctuating this last week or two that either your scales are faulting and need replacing or you are very sensitive to fluid retention.

I think I will aim for Saturday to return to the gym and see how it goes. I have heard that some people are out for a month or more after a kidney infection. That is definitely smart to play it careful and monitor it. Kidney infection is no joke, that organ is make or break in the grand scheme of a...

It's really quite miraculous how important seeing that green and avoiding red becomes. Your comment likening it to a sticker is quite accurate. That simple child like motivation is what makes it so powerful I think.

Yep, per day was what I meant. You knew though. :D I always knew it was per day but for some reason I typed week. Simple typo, or perhaps it's such an obscene number my brain spaced out trying to put it together with a single day? It's good that the guy you saw knew it was his fault and was doing so...

Spot on Nichole. It is true; simple mathematics proves that people won't make up for their poor diet with exercise alone. The caloric intake vs expenditure is just too great to make up easily with a bit more time on the treadmill. But a bit of common sense obviously dictates that exercise is useful ...

I'm looking forward to not being able to eat sweets this coming week. For me, sweets have the tendency to replace real food. Instead of eating a normal breakfast this morning, I ate the rest of my treasures and the ice cream. Then a long time later, I ate a normal meal, which turned out to be suppe...

Re: Popping in to say "Hi" again...

My first recollection of being addicted to food and dieting was at age five when a doctor told me I should lose five pounds. That chump should have lost his license to practice. I agree. If indeed a child has a weight problem (with the exception of those that are already morbidly obese), the goal s...

The conventional wisdom that exercise is essential for shedding pounds is actually fairly new. As recently as the 1960s, doctors routinely advised against rigorous exercise, particularly for older adults who could injure themselves. Today doctors encourage even their oldest patients to exercise, wh...

You are right that Weston does jump to his conclusions a little prematurely and are wise to be wary of that. I'm glad to hear the operation went well, Berry. Take care of yourself as well as your husband and don't be too tough on yourself during this hard period. If you can simply maintain things that's a huge leap ahead than simply backsliding like most people do. The stair walking is an excellent idea too.
