Veggie/Berry Smoothie: I mix a combination of broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, spinach, green beans, bell peppers, celery, and frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries), with 2 cups water, in a blender. My blender jar holds about 8 cups and I make it every 2 days, and keep it in the...

Weirdly, doctors don't really know how SSRIs cause weight gain, but they appear to do so even for patients who maintain their strict food and exercise regimens. So I'd still be eager to hear from anyone who knows anyone who's been able to lose weight even in an abnormal metabolic state . . with gra...

I don't think antidepressants could have any effect on your metabolism per se. If they caused you to gain weight, I assume it would be because they influence you to eat more and/or move about less while on them. So reducing calories in the form of NoS would work. I think NoS is a fantastic diet for ...

Essentially I have a category of food opposite the sweets category: "heathy food". This is food that I give myself a small pat on the back for eating, and is formally exempt from all NoS restrictions. If anything it's easier to sight-read than "sweets". Eg. salads, raw veggies, veggie smoothies, gre...

Haha that's interesting. I think we do agree in large part then, deadweight. What I want to stress is that it doesn't follow from the fact that there are different useful perspectives on the particulars of weight loss methodology that some perspectives aren't better than others and that you can't he...

Alas, I lost more weight at the beginning. I may actually have gained weight in the last few months. My low was 196.6, which occurred on June 21 and one day in August. What happened? Well, I think I can say that it's the human capacity for self-deception. I went down to one S Day on the weekend and...

Hey Man, I've only lost 15 pounds in a year, and I have 65 to go, so I am very disappointed by the slow weight loss. The big change for me has not been the change in weight. It's been the loss of a constant feeling of being starved. Every hour. Every minute. With this diet, I literally was gripping...

I think to answer your question one would just need to glance around at the nation of snackers we have become. Do we look healthier than our ancestors, do we look fitter, leaner, trimmer? No, but I have noticed that people who do work out and are very healthy swear by eating 5 or 6 times a da...

Bushranger once wrote me saying,"Maybe less yacking on the internet and more real work will sort your fat ass out." Perhaps this was some of the good-natured ribbing that was supposed to help motivate me. However, having lost 60+ pounds and steadily approaching my goal, I just found his comments ki...

Re: mixing me up with wosnes, that happens to me too among individuals without an avatar pic, haha. I want to repeat what I said here: Perhaps ribbing/teasing are not the right words. What I mean in everyday systems terms is merely some occasional "enlightened self-mockery" between fellow posters. I...

Reinhard, I'm kind of concerned that your No-S concept/online support is being hijacked by some of the Much-Smarter-Than-Us-Regular folks on these boards. I'd love to think that I was much smarter, or thinner, and didn't have to deal with these boards, but I guess I'm not, so I have to listen to pe...

I think you are underestimating your ability to adapt to hunger. One of the most important realizations to have before beginning a weight loss program is that your body IS going to complain about this to some degree. In order to lose weight, you have to intake less food energy than what you are expe...

Hello Winnie:

I posted my thoughts re: the overall tone of the forum in here; this thread seems like a more appropriate place for a general discussion of this issue. I disagree that a bulletin board for a weight loss community should be primarily a "soft place to land".

You can't exercise your willpower muscle unless you're taking some risks in habit-building -- a bit of ribbing by someone with stronger willpower may be helpful here. (My two cents) I would actually agree with you on the willpower/self-confidence being weakened and needing building up. And I think ...

I'm not sure that it's possible to damage one's metabolism in the way you describe, but damaging one's willpower, yes. I have only been here a short time, but have noticed the distinction between the very gentle and supportive community of former yo-yo dieters, and the people who take a harsher, har...

Deb, could you maybe try using plain Dutch-process cocoa powder in your coffee and a little sugar, instead of the instant hot-chocolate mix? that way you're only getting the pure cocoa flavor and the sugar you choose to add, without the other ingredients in the mix, and cocoa powder is so intensely...

Everyone has already had some really great responses, but I wanted to add a couple thoughts. Tea, even sweet tea, has caffeine in it, right? So if that is all that someone drinks, they may be mighty dehydrated. Drinking some water may be just the ticket to help get rid of some of that weight. I kno...

Oh, my dear. Why on earth would you want to skip a meal? You only eat three times a day, I can't see intentionally foregoing a meal unless it was for religious fasting reasons. If you look up the literature on "calorie restriction" and "intermittent fasting", it's actually an exceptionally healthy ...
