I'm with the "weigh often and keep track over time" school. I use a web site to track my daily weight (when I remember to, anyway. I use physicsdiet.com, there's also fitday.com and others). Sure, there are some annoying fluctuations (I'm pretty sure I didn't really gain five pounds between Sunday a...

Yeah, I remember reading the smallsteps site and thinking that about half of them could just be summed up as "walk somewhere you would otherwise not walk". :)

I've kind of been weaning myself off of soda gradually: 1) (even before no-S) Give up regular pop mostly 2) Give up regular pop on N-Days; drink water instead of Diet Coke at work 3) Give up regular pop entirely; replace Diet Coke with diet root beer at home (caffeine-free) 4) (not there yet) Give u...

Here's the relevant part of the No-S homepage for me: I wouldn't worry too much about borderline foods like yoghurt and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If these are a problem for you, i.e., you eat them every day and lay it on thick, then make them esses. If not, don't. Just by targeting the rea...

Thanks Deb and Cristi! You're right, it is easy, and I am pretty proud of myself. Given some of the junk binges I used to go on, it's really surprising. Anyway, one more failure to report -- early this week, I had to be in at work around 3am, which threw my whole schedule out of whack and had me eat...

One thing that helped me avoid evening snacking in the early days of my diet was to just not keep snack food in the house. After a couple of weeks, when the No-S habits were more established, it was easier to start keeping snack-like foods (to go with meals, or to save for S-days) in the cupboards a...

Checking back in... - 2-3 minor failures over the past month or so (granola bar late at night when I get *really* hungry...not a huge deal, but I should still try and get back in the habit of just trying water first). - another pizza-related "seconds" failure...It's such a specific thing (seconds on...

I find that when I'm excessive on at S day, than unpleasant feeling strengthens my resolve to make my N days count. I'm experiencing that right now...I'm just back from a mini-vacation, and due to time, budget, and habit, we ended up eating almost entirely fast food for those four days. I'm definit...

Finally had my first outright failure -- ah, pizza, bane of the "no seconds" rule. Ah well -- if my math is right that means I've got a 38-1 record, and I can't complain about that!

I figure if it's not overly sweet, any type of food is fair game for a "meal".

Besides, even the extra-large popcorn would easily fit on a plate before you pop it. :)

Snacks are simply anything you eat outside of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. (With the usual disclaimer that people with certain medical conditions may need more than 3 meals a day.) Of course, if you're having one "meal" and two "snacks" a day, then you're basically having three meals, two of which a...

The best way I've found to increase my water intake is not to try and drink 8 (or whatever number) individual glasses, but to have a big water bottle (1 liter or 32+ ounces) on my desk at work. It's easier to drink water when you have it sitting there than when you have to get up, get a glass, etc. ...

Hi everybody. I found No S last week via somebody's blog and have been lurking for a few days before finally jumping in myself. I've been calorie counting for a couple weeks now and it hasn't been that bad (even kind of fun, using a ruler and junior-high geometry to figure out how much pizza I ate b...
