I'm with the "weigh often and keep track over time" school. I use a web site to track my daily weight (when I remember to, anyway. I use physicsdiet.com, there's also fitday.com and others). Sure, there are some annoying fluctuations (I'm pretty sure I didn't really gain five pounds between Sunday a...

I've kind of been weaning myself off of soda gradually: 1) (even before no-S) Give up regular pop mostly 2) Give up regular pop on N-Days; drink water instead of Diet Coke at work 3) Give up regular pop entirely; replace Diet Coke with diet root beer at home (caffeine-free) 4) (not there yet) Give u...

Here's the relevant part of the No-S homepage for me: I wouldn't worry too much about borderline foods like yoghurt and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If these are a problem for you, i.e., you eat them every day and lay it on thick, then make them esses. If not, don't. Just by targeting the rea...

Thanks Deb and Cristi! You're right, it is easy, and I am pretty proud of myself. Given some of the junk binges I used to go on, it's really surprising. Anyway, one more failure to report -- early this week, I had to be in at work around 3am, which threw my whole schedule out of whack and had me eat...

One thing that helped me avoid evening snacking in the early days of my diet was to just not keep snack food in the house. After a couple of weeks, when the No-S habits were more established, it was easier to start keeping snack-like foods (to go with meals, or to save for S-days) in the cupboards a...

Checking back in... - 2-3 minor failures over the past month or so (granola bar late at night when I get *really* hungry...not a huge deal, but I should still try and get back in the habit of just trying water first). - another pizza-related "seconds" failure...It's such a specific thing (seconds on...

I find that when I'm excessive on at S day, than unpleasant feeling strengthens my resolve to make my N days count. I'm experiencing that right now...I'm just back from a mini-vacation, and due to time, budget, and habit, we ended up eating almost entirely fast food for those four days. I'm definit...

My non-numerical goals: 1) Get back to the point where the ring on my index finger keeps sliding off. 2) Fit into those jeans buried in my closet that never really fit to begin with. 3) Make people go "whoa!" when they see my "before" picture 4) Not suffer the pains associated with long walks (back ...

Snacks are simply anything you eat outside of breakfast, lunch, or dinner. (With the usual disclaimer that people with certain medical conditions may need more than 3 meals a day.) Of course, if you're having one "meal" and two "snacks" a day, then you're basically having three meals, two of which a...

The best way I've found to increase my water intake is not to try and drink 8 (or whatever number) individual glasses, but to have a big water bottle (1 liter or 32+ ounces) on my desk at work. It's easier to drink water when you have it sitting there than when you have to get up, get a glass, etc. ...

Thanks Reinhard! I'm surprised at how easy this is so far -- I was expecting a lot more snack cravings, but other than a particularly rough evening of Day Two, it hasn't been bad at all. Anyway, just to catch up: Day Ten: Success Day Eleven: Success with a little funny stuff of the "well, I COULD pu...

Thanks. :) Saturday/Day Five: S-DAY with another 3+ miles of Urban Ranger. Sunday/Day Six: Ditto, though this time around my walking didn't have a destination to speak of. I'm really surprised at how easy it's been to walk what I had previously thought of as a pretty big distance -- and how good it ...

Thanks Deb! Yesterday at the office they actually had cake for some reason. It's not usually this common to have work-provided junk food, I guess this week was just kind of an anomaly. Anyway, Friday/Day Four happened to be an S-DAY for me on account of it being my birthday. Just a little bit of sec...

Steve's Daily Check-In
Hi everybody. I found No S last week via somebody's blog and have been lurking for a few days before finally jumping in myself. I've been calorie counting for a couple weeks now and it hasn't been that bad (even kind of fun, using a ruler and junior-high geometry to figure out how much pizza I ate b...
