Got it ordered. Thanks for the pre-notice. At the bottom of the Amazon page there is a place for people to start a discussion about the book. Maybe some people from this board could start a discussion about NoS there and browsing customers can get a little info about the book.

Sue- Your post was very helpful to me. I like the image of an "open book test" or "taking off the training wheels." So far, I'm not doing too well on the test, but I am learning a lot about myself and my body. Your insights helped clarify some of the benefits of S days (other than that we can eat sw...

Like many others, I ate everything that wasn't nailed down on S days at first. I was relieved on Mondays to put it behind me... and I still slowly lost pounds. Now I am more restrained, not because I want to lose faster, but because after almost a year, I don't feel as if I am losing out if I don't ...

I have lost 12 pounds so far. I am close to my goal weight so I am losing very slowly, about 2 pounds a month. At least the movement on the scale is going the right direction!

I plan like Noel. I usually look through recipes and pick for the week and then go shopping. I like recipes I can freeze too so that I don't have to cook all the time. Planning the night before saves me a lot of time and relieves me of the "What should we have for dinner?" dilemma when I'm tired and...

Thanks for the recipes Jan. I checked out the link and copied almost all of them. I did McDougall for years and still have lots of their cookbooks. I've backed off from such a strict regimen, but still use lots of the recipes because they're good.

I'm 5'1". I'm also 54 years old. Combine those two together and you have a recipe for difficult weight loss/maintenance. On NoS I lost about 10 pounds that I gained when my husband was in Iraq last year. That was mostly because he doesn't snack, so I toned it way down too. Now NoS is helping me stay...

I find that if I ignore it and/or drink a bunch of water, that I will forget about it fairly quickly. When I first started NoS, I was in the habit of snacking in the morning and late afternoon (OK, after dinner too!) I was super-hungry, with grinding stomach noises, at my habitual snacking times. I'm pretty close to my goal weight, and I think that it goes slower and slower as you get closer to the goal. I lose about a pound a month now. That's fine with me since it's way better than gaining! I figure I'm on NoS for life, so I'll keep eating the way I'm eating and pretty soon I'll be at a ba...

I weigh once a week. Any more than that makes me discouraged. I'm pretty close to my goal weight, so I only lose about a pound a month. If I ever lose that last 8 pounds, then NoS is going to be my way of eating for life. It's very freeing.

Hi Carrie. Welcome. I'm impressed that it only took you a couple months to lose the baby weight. It took me longer than that, but it was worth it. I hear you on the sugar. Eating sugary things seems to turn a mental (maybe physical) switch in me and my self-restraint goes out the window. I feel like...

That was an interesting article. It gives me some hope that retraining my eating habits will get easier over time as my body changes. It explains why I was always hungry at a certain time, but now that I've been doing NoS for a while, I am no longer hungry at that trigger time.

I never thought of one S per S day. That's a good idea for me. I feel so good on N days and then an S day rolls around and I feel an uncomfortable lack of control. (Once I start with sweet or salty snacks, I am not moderate.) I think I'll try your idea this weekend.

No, you didn't scare me away; I love this NoS habit. I'm not real big, but I don't think there is much difference between the mental issues if you need to lose 200 pounds or 20 pounds. It's an attitude toward food and it's using food to self-medicate (kind of what you just said.) I'm going to try to...

How about a crowbar?

Hi to everyone. I've been reading your posts for quite a while and finally signed up officially. I'm intrigued with the shovelglove idea, but all our sledgehammers are really heavy. I'm a very short woman, so my husband brought in a crowbar and weighed it...5 pounds. I know it's not weighted like a ...
