My yearly check-in is in the form of a re-dedication to No.S. I did quite well on No-S for a long time. Then I moved across country and my habits were in total upheaval. Things have been going well. I usually do about 4 min. of work with the Indian clubs during the last part of my 14 min. shovelglove session. I'll bump up the sledge work to 14 min. after I get re-accustomed to using some muscle. :D And do about 3-5 min. of Indian club work after.

14 min went well yesterday. I had a bit of a tight back on my right side. To be safe, I took today as a yellow day. (No insurance, so I'm extra conservative with possible injuries.) Women can definitely use 8 lb hammer. For the moves that seems too heavy, I choke up on the handle a wee bit.

I'm glad to see that someone mentioned Tai Chi. It is an excellent low-impact exercise. in fact, immediately after my last post, I realized that I should have mentioned it. Ok re: why you have more problems going down the stairs than up -- I have long heard that going downstairs is harder ...

You have it down exactly right. What you're seeing from other posters is a couple of things I think: 1. a LOT of us have tried other diets. I'm one of the lucky ones and haven't. However, some carry some baggage (good and/or bad) that they carry over into No S. 2. a LOT of us are just trying to find...

If by results you mean "how long did it take for your habits to change?", then it will be roughly 1 day to 3 weeks. And sometimes multiple tries. If you're talking about how long did it take before you lost weight? You're asking the wrong question. i kinda want to see the results ASAP. This makes me...

it's NOT no sugar & other nonsense

I think people should remember that one of the No Ss is No SWEETS, it's not no sugar. The reason I bring this up is that a lot of people are asking about forbidden foods. Simply put THERE ARE NO FORBIDDEN FOODS, just some foods are DEFERRED. For example, I've seen a couple questions like: is it ok t...

Just ask yourself three questions about diet soda: 1. Is it a snack? 2. Is it a "seconds"? 3. Is it a sweet? I'd say a resounding NO on all three. While it is best to drink water -- again thinking about what our ancestors drank -- a diet soda is much better than say one of those super-sugared coffee...

And specifically about knees : Two anecdotal things: 1 . my almost 60 year old friend who needs two knee replacements sometime. Her doctor recommended an exercise bike. When she uses it, she feels better. She has the upright full bike type. 2. my almost 70 year old mother who just got a knee replace...

Here's a link to the pedal exerciser I mentioned in my post: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-3615015-2981600?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pedal+exerciser And, it sounds like the same thing that someone else mentioned as well. The heavier duty ones (also the more expensive ones) see...

No S doesn't specify the number of meals you can have per day, only that you have no seconds and no sweets.

modified grip -- flip the lever

I've returned to shovelglove after a long hiatus from it and any type of exercise and I found that my wrist was hurting after I performed this move whereas in earlier periods of shovelgloving I had no problem with it. So what I'm doing is I hold the hammer so my arm is at a 90 degree angle to the ha...

hi lost :D I just turned 40 (Mar. 24th) and have at least 70-80 pounds to lose. In 2002, for the first time ever, I started exercising. I was going to the gym 5-6 days a week. I lifted weights, and I did cardio. (First treadmill, then stationary bike.) Then I had a big flare-up of plantar fasciitis ...

hi Julie, I'd recommend starting with the 8 lb hammer. I was able to do bicep curls w/ freeweights that were heavier than 8 lbs but the 8 lb hammer was much harder. It's a lot different with the weight on the end of a stick!

Have you tried eating smaller meals more frequently? There's nothing about No-S that says 3 meals only. Now if 4-5 smaller meals won't fit into your schedule, then try slightly larger meals.

good luck!

Fungus, looks very cool. I like the industrial strength ties -- the belt buckle diving weights were perfect for that. Also the shape of the diving weights really help w/ maintaining even weight distrubution. Good job!

I don't suppose the Couch to 5k program was from coolrunning.com? Nope. I looked at that one though. It was one from triathlete.com (I believe.) Goes a bit slower than the coolrunning one. Now that I'm back to SG, I find that I'm needing to use the sledge on MWF and a broom on TTh. Like most women,...

(I assume running is how your PF came around, yes?) No. I got my PF from bad shoes & too much weight. I need to lose a gob. (I need to lose well over 50 lbs.) Though I think the bad shoes are the biggest culprit -- when I got better shoes, it helped tremendously. The weight is just slowing the heal...

I just starting shugging this week too. I have an 8 lb sledge. I've been lifting weights for months and this is hard. (And I'm not just one of those women who lifts 5 lbs each time.) If you haven't been doing any weight training, I think you might want to think about a 6 lb sledge. If you're going t...
