stopping No S results in weight gain
In Feb 2010 I weighed 234 lbs. In February 2011 and 2012 I weighed 196 lbs. Last year I stopped doing No S (because I "deserve a treat now and then"). Just now the scale said I am 213. I've been struggling a little bit to get back to No S, but that's the motivation I need. If I don't change my traje...

Wednesday success
It was a close one, but I succeeded!
Tooth brushing after meals is another helpful strategy.
So now I've got:
Meditate
Plan to avoid triggers
Plan other responses to triggers (nap, clean, walk)
Brush teeth after meals

Unexpected NoS Aid: My TOOTHBRUSH
I am No S success story (30lbs lower than before No S), but fell out of the habit for a variety of reasons and have had a LOT of trouble getting back to the ease I used to experience with No S. I have had especial trouble between lunch and dinner. Recently I discovered that brushing my teeth after l...

hmmmm Tuesdays.
Last week (4/22-4/26) was an atypical week. My school-aged children were home, so I was off work for the week. I intended to no-s, but there was definitely some stressed snacking at around 3 on the days when we stayed home (Tues and Thurs) and the kids argued with each other. This week, back to my r...

I find that a small, late lunch sets me up well for a nice meal with my family. OR I sit with my family and have a small dinner. Two meals a day is not enough for me to sustain myself long-term. But, as others have said, success lies in commitment and the planning more than the actual number of meal...

Two years since discovering No-S
In Feb 2010 I weighed 234 lbs. In February 2011 I weighed 196 lbs. This week (my two year No-S anniversary) I weigh 196 lbs. As I reflect on the past year, which has included my husband's bone-marrow transplant (cancer treatment), I'm calling "not gaining 60 lbs from stress eating" a No-S success. A...

The joy of No-S for me is the focus on behavior that I control rather than on weightloss, which is only partly dependent on what I eat (exercise, sleep, stress, etc. also seem to play important roles). By being in control of my eating more often than not, I have lost weight (45 lbs in a year). By ce...

Just want to second the advice to use a single plate. Can you look at it and say, "yeah, that's a reasonable amount to get me to the next meal"? If it's too little add, if it's too full take away. Once you've decided it's reasonable start eating and don't go back for more. Period. Fast or slow won't...

close to the year
I'm pretty close to my no-s anniversary (3 weeks away), but I know I won't be avail to post then so here's my yearly check in... As of this moment I'm 42 lbs lighter than I was when I discovered No-S last February. My BMI has dropped from 38 to 31. My fantasy goal is a BMI of 24, the upper edge of "...

Last year I mocked my husband for spending $12 on No Sweets, No Snacks, No Seconds—yeah? Who needs to read that book? Just read the cover! At the end of Feb I weighed 234 (Female, 5’7â€). I decided maybe No S’ing would be a good idea… so I did. The information on the cover was enough at firs...

Perspective is everything
I just reached the weight I was before my second child was born. When I was this weight 4 years ago, I felt embarrassed and "too fat." Now, at the same weight, I feel confident and proud. My body is similar, but my attitude is completely different. Yet another lesson that applies to other difficult ...

Focus on what's important.
These lessons are really motivating to me! Thanks! Another lesson that I realized applies to parenting... I can follow No S because the rules are clear and reasonable. The other day I caught myself giving long, complicated, unclear directions to one of my kids. Thinking of No S and Everyday Systems,...

I'm a better Mom.
I'm a better Mom... much more PRESENT for my kids.... CHOOSING better, more quality stuff to do with them. It sounds like you have a lot to be proud of, lbaucom! I like that your choices start with good and go to best; that leaves room for "good enough" when best isn't possible. I am actually a bet...

I can face my problems and not push them down with food.
As I started NoS, I noticed that sometimes I would CRAVE a sweet/snack. Because I had a plan (wait until dinner or drink some milk) I was able to resist. Then I was able to see that these cravings almost always happened when work wasn’t going well or when I was upset with someone in my family. My ...

Success breeds success, small steps count!
I’ve also learned from No S (I started on the day I first understood the program) that I don’t need a huge plan for everything; sometimes jumping in with “better than before†steps is good enough and that I CAN do even things that are difficult. Experiencing the success of sticking with No S ...

Too much of anything is not good.
Yesterday I turned down a “prestigious†fellowship (job training with low salary) because I recognized that “Too much of any good thing is not a good thing.†I have often stretched myself too thin because I hate to turn any opportunity down. Because of No S, I now have concrete experience of h...

audiomama's "Lessons Learned from NoS"
I have been looking for something here on the bulletin boards that I haven’t found. So, I’ve decided to put down some of my own thoughts. I'm interested in celebrating the non-food-related benefits of No S. For the record, Yes, I’ve lost weight on No S (about 3 lbs per month, now about 20 lbs)...

I wonder, what the need is that triggers the initial choice to step away from the rules? Did you simply need more food that day? Did you need to assert your autonomy to choose to break the rules from time to time? Were you feeling pressure from acquaintances? And I also wonder how these binge days a...

a fast food meal story
I signed up just to tell you this story... Early in no-s a friend invited me to McD. I considered a salad, but I _wanted_ a quarter pounder with fries. So I ordered the QP and small fry-- it was my meal and it fit on a plate. My friend had salad with dressing and cheese, plus some of her kids' fries...
