That would be 16 cups of water a day. from an article in Scientific American: Where did people get the idea that guzzling enormous quantities of water is healthful? A few years ago Heinz Valtin, a kidney specialist from Dartmouth Medical School, decided to determine if the common advice to drink ei...

I count my weekend, in terms of No S and weekend goofing off and other things, as Friday noon thru Saturday bedtime. Sunday counts as a weekday, for me.

Interesting stuff. I grew up in the '60s/70s, and we only got soda for camping trips, we played a lot outside, and a nickel to buy a treat was a reward if you walked or biked to the store to pick something up for Mom. However, let's also remember that in addition to habit, adults didn't snack becaus...

Back after a couple of years....

So I'm back after drifting in and out again a few years ago. And I'm in a pretty good place: in the last 4 months I've given up a huge diet soda habit, cut daily sugar and processed foods way down, and made exercise way more possible/pleasant due to some necessary foot surgery. So my next goal is to...

Here's an interesting question: why do traditionally male jobs (like construction) have very strictly observed meal breaks, while female jobs like yours don't? Unions? Men being more pushy, and sticking up for themselves? Women being afraid to make a fuss? Women making less, probably, especially if...

Count me in. Vanilla no S. I've been doing better the last two weeks, but need to do even better than that in order to go from maintaining to losing.

I had snacks yesterday (thurs). Bad me! My fault -- after horseback lessons and dog walking, I ate a much-too-small lunch.

Well, today turned into an S day -- a friend took me out for birthday lunch and another took me out in the evening. But a very sane S day, so that's good.

Thanks for the good wishes. I thought about using the daily checkin thread, but I think I need to be as nekkid as possible to stay on track. I don't expect others to read this thread, but they could, which I hope will keep me going.

Make me accountable!

Okay, while I haven't gone off the S diet, I've had a lot of red days in the last 2 months. For the remainder of August, I have GOT to toe the line!. So in addition to the HabitCal, I'm going to log in every evening and post my success (and failure, but there aren't going to be any of those!). I don...

The caffeine was killing me. I just weaned down using seltzer water -- carbonated water with no salt, sugar, etc. I realized I was enjoying the "burn" of the carbonation way more than the flavor of the diet soda. I still have one diet Pepsi every morning to wake up, and that's it. Saves a lot of $$$...

Ready to go

Okay, after lurking for a month and kicking the diet soda habit, I'm ready to start NoS. Notice I'm starting on a Friday -- surely I can do one day of no snacks/sugar/seconds before the weekend! I'm looking to lose 20 lbs to start. At my tall height, that will be about a dress size. 40 lbs eventuall...
