osoniye, I have fasted for religious, cleansing and dietary reasons. They're really different animals so I'll try to comment on your dietary one since I do fast along with NoS. (Disclaimer - I came into NoS having quite a bit of fasting experience) My wife does something similar to Marianna - she ju...

Re: Finally Did It

I would say that anything you were already doing before you started No S is not a mod, but a continuation of your status quo. Any changes you make after starting No S are mods. You might have had some good dietary habits established before you started No S, and there's no reason not to continue tho...

Re: Finally Did It

Hi montanajack - I did intermittent fasts (IF from now on) almost out of the block with mine, but I was used to them and did them in the context of No S. I guess I'd call it a mod - aggregate No S. IF days I move my plates up to the evening. It works well for my wife and I, but we use the IF sparing...

Re: Hmmm.

Before I start, I am not starting anything. Read with the kindest of intents. :) Storm Fox and chiangmaiboss - I think you are both right. I used to do work out with one guy who insisted he only move slllowly (almost super slow style). I used to joke with him because we'd shoot hoops afterwards and ...

Great Ideas!

Here's another mod: on nights and weekends, I semi-sprint when I'm running errands, to the door of the store and back, parking as far away as possible. It makes you feel great after a few days. Wow, I am not sure I could do this with kids in tow - wait, what do they do all of the time? "Dad, hurry ...

Sideways drift from urban ranger?

Not sure whether this should be in here or the Urban Ranger section, but here goes. Goal: I'd also like to drive less and walk more. I live too far away to walk (15 miles away on a high traffic highway) but I can do better... Current test: Farparking Explanation: I do like to walk - in fact, I do a ...

Urban Deranger has been demoted

Hello -

I thought this was going to stick (Urban Deranger). It's been absorbed by a couple of other things I've been doing so it's no longer a formal system - more like a subsystem of Urban Ranger (which it was anyway) and 14 minutes of anything. Still fun, but I don't consider it separate.

I listened to this podcast last week. I don't think I have ever thought of exercise this way before - even ShovelGlove I thought of as sets and reps. I have an ex phys degree and used to train people - so this is a little on the "shatter core assumptions" side of the aha world. Since I enjoy a lot o...

Re: My tries

Love the creative name! Thank you. My wife rolled her eyes when I told her, but she smiled. She also told me to keep my journaling for my journal and stop being so wordy on the board. Her comment "If it's supposed to work as a catchphrase habit, why do you need 1000 words to explain it?" So, short ...

20lbs and a new balance

Hi everyone - I found the Everyday Systems site during an internet wandering session. Shovelglove was a cool idea, so I gave it a shot and have since added to my list of things to do in the Magic Tree House (the gym - it's got things to climb up/on so my kids named it and claim it when downstairs.) ...

My wife got this book for her birthday last year and we both love it. It's very surprising to me how the same dough prepared different ways tastes so different. Here's the biggest benefit from my viewpoint - I can make it. I bake about as well as I golf (which means, if you golf with me stand wayyyy...

My tries

Hi gettheweightoff - This is something I've tried to do off and on and I think I found something that works. I also have trouble with soda - we have a "free" soda bar at work. It's all Coke products and I love Diet Pepsi, but it doesn't seem to matter if it's there and available. What didn't work so...

Very interesting

My first reaction was "no way" - even with the evidence right there. I've mind mapped in some form since early high school (before concept maps had been introduced as a standard) and it helps me quite a bit in collecting as I go. I consider it a good filtering mechanism, but when I started thinking ...

Re: Dice

Eric, are you referencing Dan John's "Workout Randomizer?" I think it's a pretty good way to keep things random and fun. The actual beginnings of my system predate this - although I really enjoy Dan John's version as well as Ross Enamit's (I just did the deck of cards workout two weeks ago, my legs...

I think the card workout idea is great! I used to do something with my workouts and diet where I rolled a dice to see if it was an easy/med/hard workout and light/normal/gorge on the diet. Since I figured most of the time should be normal a 2-4 on a die was the standard. 1 was light, 6 was hard/gorg...

I think 50 Hindu squats would make it veery hard for me to return to my seat. :) My schedule for next month includes a lot of hotel nights. I brought my pushup bars in honor of your contribution. Day Laborer (still going) and Urban Deranger (demoted)

Greetings! I have a couple of systems that have kept up with the testing and tinkering. They help me when the regular routines are too regular. System 1: Day Laborer This one is pretty simple. Take something with me to work and exercise with it before I go to the restroom. Lately it's been one of th...
