I remember in the book Reinhard says you can put a little sugar in your coffee, so why not tea.....

Re: What is your favorite beverage between meals when you're feeling a little hungry?

I've still been having a planned snack between meals (on my way to get to vanilla No S; I'm still new) but a couple of times I've had whole milk or V-8 juice. I'm going to try hot tea with a little milk.

Re: What is the hardest thing for you?

Thank you, Pinkhippie and Oolala! What you both say makes so much sense. It's true that life is naturally full of stress; no way to avoid it. Stress is not a reason to hit the ice cream, though. I have such a hard time resisting. I want to do vanilla No S, but haven't done it yet. Not one day since ...

Re: What is the hardest thing for you?

Well, all good intentions.....Let me tell you what my day has been like so far. It's Monday, and I vowed to start the week keeping to my version of No S (three meals, with a planned healthy snack in between, which I plan to give up when I have more time under my belt). So I had 1/2 of a bagel with l...

Re: How will you deal with Easter?

We used to get giant Easter baskets from an aunt and uncle. Our parents gave us much smaller gifts. My aunt hovered around 300 pounds. One day my mother and I were visiting my aunt and she asked if I wanted some ice cream. I said no several times. Finally she made a big bowl of ice cream and placed ...

I saw another Skippy commercial earlier today. They had replaced the little pudgy boy with a full-grown slim woman, digging her celery stick into the jar of Skippy. At least that commercial wasn't aimed at kids.

Re: What Sets People Up For Food Obsession?

This is a two-year-old thread, but it's such a pertinent topic for me that I will reply anyway and hope someone will read it. My eating problems were definitely formed in childhood experiences. My family always had the evening meal together in the formal dining room. There were four of us kids and w...

Indeed. It was a hostile work environment, too, but I don't think they even had that term yet. My boss used to hole up in his office and look at Penthouse magazines. They used to discuss women's physical characteristics, right there in the office. Fortunately, they did not do it to me directly.

Lady (I can't get myself to type Fart - oops!) - you lost 100 pounds - WOW! What an accomplishment! That's amazing. I've lost 3 pounds after being on No S for a little over two weeks. I want to lose about 25. I know that weight loss isn't really as important as changing habits but I can't help mysel...

Re: Is This Mod a Bad Idea?

I think that if you are eating foods that you like/love on N days, and if you're comfortable with the three-meals pattern in general, it's good to have the three-meal pattern on S days too with a few extras. For me it's sweets. I have to be careful because I'm diabetic so I can't go completely wild....

Re: Am I A Failure If I Can Only Follow Two No S Diet Principles?

I am also relatively new, but I have already found that I can't make it 6 hours between meals without a planned, healthy snack. Beverages don't do it. If I don't have a snack, after about 4 hours I end up white-knuckling it until the next meal. So, I guess you could say that I am also following only...

Thanks, Soprano - good advice! I had so much incentive right after the bypass surgery and concurrent diabetes diagnosis. I lost 40 pounds in a few months. I've gained half of it back, and that's where I still am today. :(

Yes, I have Type 2 diabetes, as well as coronary artery disease. I had a heart attack and bypass surgery in 2012 with no complications since then. No significant heart damage. I think of myself as lucky. My doctor says my blood glucose is under control.

No, I didn't eat planned meals, either, most of the time. I am trying to cook again, so there's leftovers, and other nights I will make a big salad with chicken or some other protein. I'm looking forward to one month on No S!

Re: What is the hardest thing for you?

Thank you so much for your good advice! I have read "hints" in the book that OJ may not be the best thing to tide you over on an N day, so I am going to treat it as a snack on S days. I was kind of thinking that way anyhow (a beverage that works well between meals, in addition to milk, is V-8 juice)...

Unfortunately, I am usually famished when I first wake up. We get up at 6 AM. I often wake up at 3:30 or 4 AM and white-knuckle it until 6. I eat lunch at noon and dinner at around 6 or 7 PM. I usually am not famished before lunch or dinner, but I do have an appetite. The psychological urge to snack...

A tea expert once told me that if you put 1/2 tsp. sugar in your tea, it cuts the bitterness and you don't taste the sugar. Tried it and she's right. It brings out the natural taste of the tea.

Thank you, Soprano! If my weight went up on Friday, I would likely get silly over the weekend, yes. I think I would punish myself by either overeating or undereating on the weekend. Either way, It would be irrational.
