I've never been a huge consumer of soda, but at certain times or with certain meals, I like something of that nature. On No-S I've found a satisfying solution by adding stevia to taste and lemon juice to flavored, but unsweetened, fizzy water.

Reinhard, I'm nudging you about the audio book project! I sent you a Facebook private message a couple of weeks ago offering to make a recording myself (maybe you didn't see it because we're not FB friends). Then today I thought to Google the topic, and found this thread. I would MUCH rather have a ...

I like to keep all my eating within an 8-hour window on N-days. It's easy for me to wait in the morning, and I don't mind going to bed feeling "nice and empty" (what I would have called "hungry" in the past!), and I'm good and hungry for all three meals, which I generally have around 11:00 am, 3:00 ...

Heather, how many grams of carbohydrate do you eat per day? Or if you don't know the number, an exact description of what a day's carb intake looks like for you would help me: type of food and quantity. I'm looking at this as being a problem in my diet also, and am trying to cut down. Thanks!

These habits become so strong. I made three kinds of cookies yesterday. The final batch was being baked six hours after my dinner, and I didn't experience any real temptation to do anything but wait until Thursday (our family gathering) to enjoy them. I'm quite amazed. When I began No-S four months ...

If I may say so myself, I am an excellent baker, and also a great appreciator of my own baked goods. I have overindulged in every possible way in my pre-No-S baking days (from licking the spatula, to eating far too many cookies when they are fresh out of the oven, to eating them hard out of the deep...

Yes, every few days something happens that reminds me of how easy this has become, and amazes me all over again. From the past ten days: 1) Walking into a shop and immediately being offered a sample of their homemade fudge. Easy to say no! 2) Sitting next to my husband during a 50-minute drive while...

Super Strictness Yields Super Ease!!

I've been No S-ing for nearly two months now. And I have been super strict with the rules the entire time. I am here to say that I'm finding it easier to do all the time. It's amazingly easy! I do believe that's so because I haven't allowed any exceptions whatsoever. Yesterday I was at a special eve...

What a wonderful story to the beginning of your No-S dieting! What a great way to come across the diet! You have done so well. I just finished my sixth week of strictly adhering to No-S. I read about it for the first time on August 15 (a Saturday night) and, like you, was immediately struck by the r...

Minimizer and Vicki, thank you both for your encouragement. Minimizer, I'm a germaphobe also, but tend to suspend that in the face of free food samples. Not a bad idea to indulge my hesitations in that in that situation, I suppose! Vicki, I'm building great new habits, and have been so encouraged to...

Two Ways to Go to Costco

One: Go on an S-day and eat food samples as desired. Two: Go on an N-day. Say to the food demonstrators with a big smile, "Thanks, but I don't eat between meals." Bet they don't hear *that* very often! I did it the second way today, and it felt really great to not be eating just because it was free ...

Real Pleasures in Baking

I am an excellent baker. My history of baking, in addition to eating far too much the finished baked goods, includes plenty of licking the bowl, licking the spatula, eating a few chocolate chips as I bake.... Today I needed to bake for a celebration of a friend's birthday. As this is my fifth week o...

I'm pretty much an indoor girl, and would be even more so if I lived in your climate and hills. I ride my bike when the weather is just right, but other than that I exercise indoors. I ride a stationary bike, walk on a treadmill, jog on a rebounder, and hula hoop indoors, ALL while either watching s...

Keep strictly to the No-S rules and you will be amazed to watch your appetite change. Three times in the past week-and-a-half I ordered a hamburger in a restaurant which I fully intended to eat, then found myself cutting it in half and packing up half to take home because I realized that half was al...

For me, eating is a pleasure. The beauty and flavor of the food are so enjoyable, and that is all the more true for me when I am eating off of plates and bowls that are beautiful. So I use my lovely small plates and bowls instead of one large plate. It would make me sad to not use these beautiful th...

I'm here to agree about contra dancing. It costs me more time and money than I can afford to do frequently, but I sure love it. It's done to great (live, in most cases) music, and is so much fun that you don't even notice how much exercise you're getting! Unfortunately I drive 140 miles round trip t...
