The most important reason for the single plate rule is to SEE everything in front of you at once -- to make excess (if there is excess) visible so you aren't deceiving yourself. A bowl and a small plate side by side should be fine. You can think of this as "virtual plating" -- and it's really the be...

I think KCCC's "don't expect" is the best answer. I've heard "half a pound a week" as a reasonable rate of loss for moderate eating, which has the advantage of nudging you towards "don't expect," but obviously isn't very scientific since it takes no account of how much you have to lose to begin with...

milczar, Amen to both thoughts. 1. "Can't stick to it" is THE problem as far as diet is concerned. Losing weight, that's easy. Most of us have done it hundreds of times :-) 2. It's amazing, fat as we are, that we have the gall to be smug in regard to the skinny fifties. I suspect that the generation...

I can't wait to see it! (and you all!) Unfortunately the Woman's World editor just emailed me that they won't be able to release the cover image until it hits the newsstand. So I'll have to distract myself till april 7th hitting reload on amazon and obsessing over my "sales rank" :-) Actually, suppo...

nonskanse, I'm not mad, I'm thrilled! I'm delighted to have inspired you to come up with a system of your own that works. The fact that you didn't just give up after running into serious trouble, but learned from your experience, tweaked and tried again until you hit on something that worked is wond...

I believe the date is April 14 but it'll appear in stores April 7th. Very happy you liked the book! I know the book hasn't even officially been out a full day yet, but if there are any fast readers among you who want to be the first to write a review on amazon, I'd hugely appreciate it! http://www.a...

Gloves
I've tended to view the shovelglove induced calluses on my hands as an accomplishment rather than an annoyance, but after developing some unambiguously annoying calluses on my feet last month (even urban ranger has its risks!) I decided maybe I ought to revisit the issue. Weight lifting or batting g...

Not that I find myself hungry often anymore (I've gotten REALLY good at budgeting meal size over the years, plus habit has taught appetite to stay in the cage still mealtime), but when I do, black coffee does wonders. The wonderful thing about coffee is that it's got this immoral bad boy vibe, even ...

Wow! Ich bin erstaunt! Und sehr froh dass es euch gefällt! The website has been a labor of love, but I've had to write it in fits and starts and I'm afraid that shows. It was a lot easier to justify spending the focused, consecutive hours that decent writing demands with an actual book deal in plac...

You've long admired her feet...
...on April 7, you'll finally get a chance to behold the rest of her -- when our very own Blondie will grace the cover of Woman's World magazine for a story on the No S Diet. The story will also include interviews with (and photos of, I believe?) two other longtime no-essers: Josie and Silverfish. I...

Hi Bonnie, I think a good first step might be just to collect more "data:" Pay close attention for a week or two and make a note of situations in which you feel like you could have/should have been more assertive. I'd actually recommend writing this down so you don't selectively forget. Then see if ...

This is tough. I have some clue what you're going through because I've got 2 young children myself (there's a tupperware of fresh baked cookies in the fridge as I write this). The solution is not easy at first, but it gets easy if you make it over that initial hump: clarity about what you are suppos...

Congratulations! But please be VERY careful. I'm not sure it's a good idea, much less a possible one, to do much dieting during pregnancy. No-s is very moderate, but still, please really do run everything by your doctor. As KCCC suggests, cutting out "sweets" during the week is probably safe enough ...

Thank you for your generous concern for my book sales! From what I understand, amazon "sales rank" is calculated hourly and can swing wildly. I think it's more a sign of something good than a cause of something good, so I wouldn't worry about timing purchases to outsmart it. Pre-orders seem to count...

sgtrock, Welcome (officially) and thanks for the intro! I love it that your wife is doing it, too. On one level a lot of the moves seem very manly and macho, but some of them actually come from traditional "woman's work" (churn butter, right?). I've been very happy at the number of female shuggers w...

Welcome back, Carrie. You have a big advantage because you've seen how this can work and know you can do it. The only adjustment you'll have to make is to think of this as something permanent, not a means to and end. Because there is no end (until The End). Fortunately, as I think you've experienced...
