Welcome! It's common for people to chastise themselves, but not necessary. In fact, as most of here know, it's also bafflingly typical to go overboard with small mistakes. It's called the What the Hell effect (literally, that's what researchers often call it) and is one of the main things successful...

Your BMI is 27.4. The great news is that your modest goal, which would put you just slightly inside the overweight category, would drop you way down to LIGHTER than 70% of your same cohort! A woman would not get near the bang for her buck. Not that we're in a battle of the sexes or with our peers! I...

Whether you get to 50 lbs. lower or not, this plus weaning yourself OVER TIME off a lot of manufactured food is bound to support better health. I'm sorry I didn't find it in my 40s because the sugar damage I did then is something that can show up decades later.

I never experienced such things, even when I was doing intermittent fasting last year, but I'll still ring in with saying that it seems perfectly okay to start back with more smaller meals spread out, and then see if you can taper off later. I've also read others say the dizziness and other side eff...

I started a thread about some sugar effects that are affecting my thinking about it, and ended up getting off on a personal tangent, as I wanted it to stay mostly "just the facts." I had posted that I might try to revert to 1822 usage, but comments made me realize that might be going too far. Here i...

I ended up going on a personal tangent, so I'm pasting it to my check in thread. Feel free to post any of those sugar effects on the bod, if you think they might be motivating. I hope anyone who doesn't want to be influenced by such data won't read this thread! I"m going to edit my first post and pu...

Go back and really remember in detail how pleasant it was to live that green week. Remember the comfort in your body and how good you probably felt at the end of each day. Decide: is there anything that's worth giving that up for? Would I be willing to be uncomfortable at times to get that feeling? ...

Very admirable goals. Isn't it a shame that we all have to make such firm resolutions to savor our food? but it is natural for humans to eat more when there's more variety. It's how our ancestors got to be out ancestors.

Fewer red days is definitely an improvement! Be glad you don't have a big American Thanksgiving feast to look forward to. I haven't been compliant so it's a little hard to feel completely relaxed about it. I'll try to bring you to mind today and Friday (Thursday is the big day) so we can have solida...

MM, out of curiosity, how long does watching Lustig last? Are sodas your only way of not sticking to a diet, or are they gateway drugs? I'm toying with the idea of aiming in 2018 to have only the sugar a person in 1822 would have, and possibly weaning myself off stevia on N days. I think that would ...

Kathleen, nice to see you and thanks for commenting! I think it is not possible to measure the efficacy of any program in less than two years. What can feel easy and right for periods of time can become shaky and difficult later. That's why Reinhard says there is no such thing as before and after: o...

Thanks for your concern, but I don't quite understand, as I think I was saying the same thing. I believe the quest for appearance is a false idol, meaning not the real thing. (In fact, when people here lose weight, I almost always congratulate them on the HABITS that got them there, not the loss its...

If you've been at it a year but not had a lot of time green, it's hard to tell what the issue is. If your intent is to lose weight, see if you can "put a fence around the law," and see what happens. It's only then that you'll know if you have to make some purposeful mods. The hard truth is that some...

Thanks, Larkspur. I assume you are agreeing with me that chasing cosmetic pounds is seductive but for mostly the wrong ultimately only marginally satisfying reasons. I, too, thought IF could flow nicely with No S. I read tons and tons on the benefits but rarely discussed it here because it's not rea...

Alert for anyone experimenting with fasting! You may not want to read this. Well, I've been off the deep end. More dessert in a sitting than I had eaten in several weekends. And other stuff, but that's enough detail. My goodness. The urge can come over me and I don't even try to fight it. How I'm go...

I'm going to a weeklong retreat at which there will be a potluck lunch and dinner and a snack table all day. I haven't done as well as I would have liked in the past. We shall see.

I know this will sound like an impossibility, but you absolutely have the right to tell your mother that she does not have permission to criticize your weight or your eating. Ever. This is just too fraught an issue to allow just anyone to comment on. If she has nothing nice to say, she can't say any...

Well, come to think of it, I did "undereat" compared to what I was used to compulsively eating before No S. But it wasn't by plunging down to low levels.

My meals had gotten to the point before No S at which they were reasonable, often even "healthy." I did have my savory junk at some meals on No S for...well, sometimes still now, but certainly a lot less as time has gone on. But my big issue was sweets, bingeing or at least semi-bingeing on them eve...

I like Satter but also feel torn. Her emphasis on eating as much as you want looks like it gets used to justify some intense overeating with people admitting that they later felt stuffed, but not taking that as a sign that something was off. She also says to get to meals hungry, and yet says snacks ...

I'm a little surprised that walking on a treadmill desk felt like it was too much. When I read about them, the recommendation was to keep the pace at about a mile an hour. 'Course, that's still several hours of walking a day! I wonder how many steps that was? I also remember a guy named Covert Baile...
