I coteach with four teachers in high school. In previous years, we typically had between 35 and 40 students in our classes with up to half of them Spec Ed. (Yes, that's not supposed to happen.) In my opinion, they were nightmares. This year, the classes are a bit smaller, the students are older, and...

Welcome, gingerlily and Heather. Try to focus on sane habits first. if you can. How well has focusing on the scale worked in the past? If not much, it's a perfect time to try something else. In looking at the original page Reinhard wrote as a bit of explaining of the 14 words (because a newbie on Spark was asking so many questions), I came across a link to this thread and decided to bump it up. Thanks for your concern, but I don't quite understand, as I think I was saying the same thing. I believe the quest for appearance is a false idol, meaning not the real thing. (In fact, when people here lose weight, I almost always congratulate them on the HABITS that got them there, not the loss its...

If you've been at it a year but not had a lot of time green, it's hard to tell what the issue is. If your intent is to lose weight, see if you can "put a fence around the law," and see what happens. It's only then that you'll know if you have to make some purposeful mods. The hard truth is that some...

Thanks, Larkspur. I assume you are agreeing with me that chasing cosmetic pounds is seductive but for mostly the wrong ultimately only marginally satisfying reasons. I, too, thought IF could flow nicely with No S. I read tons and tons on the benefits but rarely discussed it here because it's not rea...

Alert for anyone experimenting with fasting! You may not want to read this. Well, I've been off the deep end. More dessert in a sitting than I had eaten in several weekends. And other stuff, but that's enough detail. My goodness. The urge can come over me and I don't even try to fight it. How I'm go...

red red red red red Can't even keep track. I who kept harping on how I needed to be in training for the holidays. Aack! I'm going to a weeklong retreat at which there will be a potluck lunch and dinner and a snack table all day. I haven't done as well as I would have liked in the past. We shall see.

I know this will sound like an impossibility, but you absolutely have the right to tell your mother that she does not have permission to criticize your weight or your eating. Ever. This is just too fraught an issue to allow just anyone to comment on. If she has nothing nice to say, she can't say any...

My meals had gotten to the point before No S at which they were reasonable, often even "healthy." I did have my savory junk at some meals on No S for...well, sometimes still now, but certainly a lot less as time has gone on. But my big issue was sweets, bingeing or at least semi-bingeing on them eve...

I like Satter but also feel torn. Her emphasis on eating as much as you want looks like it gets used to justify some intense overeating with people admitting that they later felt stuffed, but not taking that as a sign that something was off. She also says to get to meals hungry, and yet says snacks ...

I'm a little surprised that walking on a treadmill desk felt like it was too much. When I read about them, the recommendation was to keep the pace at about a mile an hour. 'Course, that's still several hours of walking a day! I wonder how many steps that was? I also remember a guy named Covert Baile...
