Saw your comment about looking for vegetable recipes rather than baking cookies. I gave up baking sweet foods (unless I'm failing) a few years ago and had greatly decreased it already before that. I took a macrobiotic cooking class (didn't and don't try to follow it) about 20 years ago and am gratef...

Because a chicken wing means survival and passing on your genes. If the human body had not evolved to be very reinforced for eating, none of us would be here. However, it also evolved when there was often food scarcity. It wasn't designed for being able to ingest so many calories for so little effor...

To be clear, there are SOME people who actually don't think about their eating. They exist at all weights. Some of them, even thin ones, develop health problems that can be reversed by different eating. There's only so much any one of us are willing to do. Cancer researcher Valter Longo found that c...

True that, GP. I would also think, well, where would I be if I followed a diet? I knew my odds of being better off two years later would not very good. Imperfect Vanilla will likely leave people in a better place as time goes on than a failed diet attempt.

Good to hear. The lure of the momentary pleasure is very real. It's hard to face that it IS true that it feels better right when we eat and yet if we want freedom, we have to choose not to do it. I've honestly never found anything that's as immediately and easily as reinforcing as overeating is. Tho...

All the updates on any threads for No S come from Reinhard's gmail address, at least for me. I should try to keep track of which ones go to SPAM. It's actually usually the individual check-in threads. Maybe some individuals have something in some post along the way that looks like SPAM to the filter...

metaphors/mantras/maxims for combatting WTH

Wasn't there a thread that had kind of funny, short, and useful metaphors for not giving in to What the Hell?

Like don't crash the car just because you dented the fender.

I'd like to bump it up. Or have this become one.

I, too, would put the things on a plate on N days at least, just to get a sense of their volume. I'm one who likes salad stuff on my plate because I often prefer to eat bites of my main food with a bit of salad, no dressing, though I vary that. Anything that really needs to not touch other food, I'd...

That is so fantastic! I'm so glad to hear you say your blood readings are more important than the weight loss. I'd be more bummed if I got thinner but still had disease-dangerous readings. And the fact that you've done it with sustainable habits is even better, IMHO.

Or you can say you'd rather not say, really.

Tough lessons. The websites I looked at say that dropping 10% makes a big difference. You dropped a LOT more than that! But to some degree, health problems are pernicious.

Hmm, that's tough. Our biology conditions us to want to feel desired, partly for procreation and for acceptance into the group, which means survival. Eventually, there can be whole weekends with no s's. In my mind, they're still S days because the option is there. But it's perfectly possible to have enjoyable weekends s free.

Would it be possible to try to let go of the weight loss aspect for a bit? I know it's probably why you came, but I've seen so many get derailed when this kind of things happens.
