There's nothing else to do BUT experiment. Research on long term maintenance shows that relapse doesn't decrease to below 50% until people have gone through a series of adjustments--meaning adherence, slips, recalibration, etc.-for a minimum of two years. Some people luck out and have it all fall in...

When it becomes second nature, or at least much easier, is not predictable, really. It depends on many things, but it sounds like you have some good instincts. Just keep going!

Very worthy strategies. I've seen a fair number of people give up because they kept trying to eat "diet" meals and then overate other stuff. I personally think it really undermines one's own faith in oneself to profess the need for purity and then reneg on it.

Yes, it has become normal to eat for countless reasons. (But so have most cultures that have gotten more and more access to food.) If our culture supported moderation, we wouldn't need diet books, not even No S. SOME people, like Reinhard, can see the wisdom of the alternative to the "normal" cultur...

I've almost never, since being on No S, been willing to eat less just to lose weight, so I understand your thoughts. I thought I was going to just be heavier many times. I was at the high end of my BMI in high school, so it made sense I might get back there, but I felt there were no guarantees, and ...

I'm not against calorie counting for simple information. I used to get a soft serve chocolate cone at Costco fairly often years ago. I looked it up once and was surprised that it was 400 calories. That's just a little less than a lot of my total lunches are. Though I do enjoy them, and have one once...

Is it a downer to say I almost can't believe I have another 27 years? That's how long until I would turn 90. At least there'll be cake! Hope you enjoyed every bite.

Isn't it funny? but annoying funny. I've kinda been able to get some distance from being frustrated with wanting to eat when I'm not hungry, but it took some doing, and yes, it can be wearying. But I'm in a bit of a groove with it right now. I have a low eating day every third or fourth day now, and...

January of 2010 (well, really Dec. 26, 2009) was my official restart. It basically stuck, though I had a big relapse at Christmas time, though it was over lost love, not holidays. I think that was the last time a life event threw me for a long loop. Weight bounced around, but was MOSTLY downwards wi...

If it's any consolation, I don't think eventual success is correlated with wild S days in the beginning. Mine wasn't. But would feel like crying when I tried to impose limits. Finally I came up with an acceptable mod. WAAAAY down the line for me. The contrast between S and N days is one of the best ...

I tried writing short stories years ago. Way hard! They just devolved into sappy stuff more like a teen after-school program. Creativity is hard! You have to be willing and able to sit rather patiently and let stuff come to you, with many hours not really netting much. Pros make it look easy. But wh...

People can choose their own "what" on their plates, but it doesn't mean in the long run it isn't important. It just isn't the focus in the beginning. Plus, humans can do well on a lot of variation of what, but the slim healthy cultures of the world tend to eat similar overall amounts of food, and it...

RE: protein. I agree. Maybe I've just been looking at a scientifically incestuous group, but in looking at the longevity issue as related to lower energy intake, it doesn't sound to me like any of the researchers advocate a lot of protein. I don't think any I've read were into LC. But what's a lot o...

The only thing you can do is test it out. Authors make promises all the time. Eat this and you'll be satisfied. Do this and you won't get hungry. Don't worry, it won't be hard. They absolutely cannot promise this for any individual, though they may have many people who do have the experience they cl...

Making changes to eating is well-researched and it's well-known that it can be very hard UNLESS the person's motives are clear and perceived to be very important and to involve an INNER value, not one motivated by external rewards such as approval or prestige. This can start the process but rarely s...
