Kathleen, just fast between three one-plate meals on weekdays for six months. That can be your offering to God. If you are tested, so be it. It won't be every hour of every day.

And you can have Thanksgiving off. (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are already on weekends) :P

I don't think it's really derailing it because it's an important issue.

I realized that being in a hurry before had never helped the process go any faster. It didn't matter what happened in a few weeks. It mattered what happened in a year or more! An advantage of being old: perspective.

I have often used the term "sane" eating to describe No S-type eating. Just for the heck of it, I googled that and found there is a program called SANE that to me is anything but. It's basically paleo. I guess those people in the Blue Zones, eating bread, beans, rice, corn meal, etc., living into th...

TX, kaali!

Just wanted to add that there are still times when I have to just get through the next few hours until that next meal, and this is after several years, though there have been some stretches that it was pretty automatic during.

I'm sorry to not accept the company line about 21 days. You are actually changing a lot more habits by eating three meals a day, so 21 days is a minimum. The experience of millions of dieters shows that they can stick to new habits of eating less for weeks and even months and still lose their habits...

Well, I was so convinced of the value of No S that I didn't have any fails for the first three months. But I had a change in routine temporarily and then started careening. It took quite awhile to get back on track. I just kept reminding myself of how well the program would counter my compulsive eat...

I've read that a pregnant woman's body needs no more than an extra 300 calories a day during the last trimester. The whole idea of eating for "two" is a big myth. Even if women didn't eat extra, most women in our culture have enough "reserves" to easily get the extra from without any harm to the bab...

I posted my fail on my calendar but am declaring it here, too. Boy, did it feel like it would be worth it at the time. I'm not terribly sorry, but do want these last three days of this week to be green, esp, after opening this thread and seeing Sonya's calendar so green and yellow!

Lilbec, expecting S days to be sane too soon can lead to a lot of misery. It is not a failure to go overboard on S days, even for quite awhile, i.e., it doesn't mean it's not working. That is a big misunderstanding. If a person has been overeating continually, then 20 days a month of sane eating is ...

Cheers! Nothing like being able to cross a temptation off our lists. Especially one we see a lot. Brian Wansink showed that the average person will eat even stale popcorn, and a lot of it, if they're served a lot of it. So don't feel bad about not pushing the food away. (That's what I tell myself wh...

I don't remember ever seeing anything addressing this conflict. It's a controversy, meaning you can find experts with conflicting opinions (e. g., that abstinence is the only effective strategy). Same with "reformed" eaters. It's true that if you truly want never to hassle with any sense of having t...

BTW, about90% of dieters go way overboard when they slip. Some of them never get over it because they interpret it as meaning they are a complete failure, it's not use trying, etc. Something successful loser/maintainers finally realize is that they CAN wean themselves off that habit. Their slips go ...

Make blood sugar KING. If you have to change your diet quite significantly to do it, do it. NO FOOD is worth the effect of elevated sugar on the whole system- the brain and the risk of stroke especially would motivate me. I recommend also having some reasons you want to limit your eating besides weight loss. There will be times the scale doesn't change at all and you might be tempted to say, wth, but not feeling at the effect of the night snacking habit is a rewarding benefit in itself. Also, at tough moments, think ...

mylizzie, I went through something similar recently. It feels terrible when you're in it. Do your best to get through at least one meal gap without eating each day. Then work up the time between eating. It doesn't have to be all at once.

It's not that I worry about not being hungry. It's that I don't like it! And I still feel like eating a lot of the time. It often feels like...being on a diet. Ugh.

But you've found your groove. Hurray!

I think traditional societies actually eat only one major meal a day. The others can be very small affairs. The traditional French have only cafe au lait and something bread-y, but a small portion, for breakfast.

I feel torn about compliments that have to do with weight loss and thinness. In one way, I'm flattered, but I also have such resentment about how strongly women especially are pressured to be slim and even to bond over the effort when there is so much more to be concerned with. But I'll report one. ...
