Try to let yourself off the hook a little. This is just another habit. I don't want to trigger you, but I will admit that after six years, the health quality of foods does enter into how I plan my meals, but even before No S, I had spent time and energy decriminalizing foods. This gave me the chance...

Got in a workout yesterday. A fellow philosophy student asked me today what kind of workout I do. I told her about 14 minutes, since it's what I do most consistently. I know she was asking because I've lost a little over the last couple of months; she commented that I was looking like a teenager, wh...

Some slim cultures eat early; others, late. Consistency and moderation are the keys. The timing just has to work for your total needs. BTW, consider telling yourself that sticking to moderate meals is an even BETTER way of coping with the stress of a new job than S-ing. But you have to do it consist...

I wish I could remember the researcher who said he thinks it would pay off in health care costs to simply give free vouchers for vegetables to vulnerable populations. One heart surgery is easily $80,000 with hospital and surgeon fees, no? Often more. Dat's a lotta broccoli. But I've also read recent...

A woman who ended up writing a book about the power of making small changes said the first change she made, not really thinking it was going to lead to so many other things, was vowing not to eat any of the snack food offered between meals at the office. When it gets really clear how little real ple...

I've thought of parking a ways from work, but I often have a roll-around that I have trashed the wheels on once before. The case I had before I had to chuck because they couldn't replace them. Such a waste! But a pretty good excuse... yet, I envy you. Hmm.

Just old patterns of pairing the food with some other stimuli. The important thing is to recognize that it is part of the neural pattern that you would really like to suppress, no? It does not tell you about a real need, nor will you damage yourself by suffering through the intense feelings of anxie...

Hmm, any chance there is some place you can keep that stuff in store for S days? Wrapped up tight in the garage, the car trunk, someone else's car trunk? Four nights and three more days aren't trivial. I used to think it was okay to keep stuff around. It's not terrible, but it does bring some possib...

Just remembering that, that you don't want to repeat that experience, may be able to subtly (or not so subtly) influence you to make some changes to the basic pattern easier, things that previously seemed like too much of a sacrifice. They're almost always preceded by an "inside job."

Yeah, I saw that. I visited Atlanta once and saw plenty of bi-i-i-ig people. But I see a fair number of them here in SoCal, too, though I guess it might just be my perception.

I guess it may not just be a stereotype that Southerners eat a lot of fried foods and other heavy stuff.

It may just take longer. It also might be mistaken identity, meaning the feeling is paired with something else you don't even realize. I laugh when proponents of intermittent fasting talk about not needing three meals a day, as if that's ALL people eat! As I've said, if we could get 80% of people eating ONLY that often, then we could have an interesting baseline to see if and who needs refinement. But I think things will get worse ...
