I have not slept well for nearly 20 years. I'm sure it has caused many problems, but it has not stopped my eating less over time. A friend just got evaluated and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Nut butters, nuts, cheese, plus fruits are pretty convenient, no? It's become such a habit to have basic food groups on hand, partly because I'm on the lookout for them when I shop, that I rarely have an excuse not to assemble a meal. Grains are cooked in quantity and frozen; meats often, too. I als...

I hate to be that person who frets about food when out, because it makes me think of eating disorders, but really, it does seem hard to get a reasonable meal for a reasonable price, a win-win for both. Roy Baumeister said never assume that a person trying to change eating habits does not have willpower. I'm going to repeat the advice to consult your list of reasons you want to eat moderately. They have to be things you really want and that you know are life-affirming, not just cosmetic. Just a reminder, you would have to OVEReat by 3,500 calories to gain ONE pound of fat. I cannot understand the research that keeps saying weighing leads to more weight loss. I have seen it lead to much more misery and less determination, not more way more of the time. I agree that if you are going t...

I started over six years ago, but weight loss wasn't my focus, even though I was in the low obese range. I was a compulsive overeater, especially of sweets. I knew a diet wouldn't cure me of that. Even from the beginning, my meals were rather "healthy," though, having found out that I didn't actuall...

Wow, that is quite a turnaround on the IF POV. I want to say that when I tried it solely to lose weight, I ended up feeling deprived and annoyed and it did feel a bit like torture. Now that I'm doing it for other reasons, it feels pretty good, even fun at times. I don't resent it like I did before. ...

I'm taking the liberty of posting the address of my most recent testimonial. I would say that emotional eating has really taken a back seat to other concerns and No S helped me get to this point. It just goes to show that motivation can trump just about anything, when it's clear and real. I cannot h...

So how are they thinking this will help? Somehow make everything sweet in the world provide no energy so people have only that lousy-by-comparison tasting stuff with energy to choose from? But it has been my experience that after my years on No S, I'm less likely to sacrifice space for sweet stuff o...

I have done only one 24-hour fast since I read Pilon's book. I'm experimenting now with two 16-hour fasts on non-consecutive days. I'll consider extending it when it feels routine and easy. On non-work days, the easiest is dinner to late breakfast or early lunch. I'm often not very hungry in the mor...

Well, it's been awhile since I checked in. I guess I felt I was wobbling enough that I didn't want to discourage anyone. I never lost faith that having consistent habits, not snacking-thus longer meal gaps- being one of them, was key. I went through a long, long time of wavering because I had actual...

Sounds like a lovely vacation. When I lived in Iran, another American there who had traveled extensively, said it was the most beautiful place she had ever been. It does seem it might be hard to be vegan unless you were to eat an awful lot of fruit. Or what do I know? I guess there would be plenty o...

Just wanted to add that what's normal for humans is to overeat when exposed to excessive food with no outside-such as cultural- curtailment, and especially to highly palatable- read packaged and a lot of restaurant- food. Sixty-six percent rate of overweight in this country is proof of that. In fact...

I go through down times and can't always find a really good reason why. Then it will lift. Grace! I do NOT like managing other workers! Yes, you MIGHT lose your taste for crisps. I imagine you cook a fair amount of grains. Do you freeze them? I tend to have some frozen grains and beans hanging aroun...
