If weighing truly inspires a person, it's a great tool. If it leads a person to have a cruddy day or give up perfectly reasonable habits, it's an obstacle. Some people seem to be able to go from obstacle to tool. It's so hard to know anything about any one weigh-in. We can be so influenced by what a...

When your fear and loathing of going overboard on S days and suffering cruddy Mondays is great enough, you will be able to institute mods for S days, since they never calmed down on their own. Gould's focus was on analyzing the reasons behind the emotions and came up with all kinds of labels for them, plus an emotional persona he even named for the eater. Just want to say that some people never make the mod of having occasional S events on a whim, but stick to the allotted two or fewer extra per month decided ahead of time. I haven't been tracking here or anywhere, but I think I've complied 4 of 5 N days a week. Had a shoulder injury last Wednesdayl didn't feel it then but it hurt like hell by Friday. I thought it was going to really slow me down, but I was able to do the 7-minute circuit today. I think it was an overh...

Not a rant, in my book. And so glad you've decided to give this your all. You said it yourself: you did not really DO all those programs. You basically dabbled in them and that is not the same. Hey, you're human! I beleive failures serve the important purpose of bringing you to the point of realizin...

I would say, "There is nothing that is going to make the urges to overeat go away on their own. You will have to learn to feed yourself regularly without overdoing it consistently. You will have to learn to say no even when it's really hard, and this will not damage you. You won't learn this on a sp...

Thanks, r.jean! I went to a meditation session yesterday that I go to periodically. We can sit any way we want and I was very comfortable on a sofa. I wasn't even thinking about the arm issue at all, but noticed that after the session, I could move it in a greater range than before. It's even better...

Omgosh, I have hurt my left shoulder a lot more than I thought. I didn't even feel it when it happened. Maybe I made it worse rubbing around on it (I used to be a massage therapist. Hmm.) I have to be very careful which I angle I move the arm in or there is a lot of pain. Dang! I will work around it...

Most not surprising to the initiated, but appreciated! I still find the "good breakfast" one misleading. The French have basically toast and cafe au lait. The Italians have a sweet pastry and coffee. (Also no protein to speak of with their carbs.) Not what most overweight people think of as a good b...

I do variations on crunches or any moves, some of them standing, that tax the abdominals on different days. I do the wall sit for 90 sec. on Thursdays. I mix it up! But today's workout didn't leave me breathless. Oh, well. Failed yesterday, but not spectacularly. Still, sigh. I'm still not able to f...

I have read stuff on Ellyn Satter's site. I like her a lot! No S doesn't say you have to finish what's on your plate, though I, like Reinhard, tend to do it. A lot of members say they do get to the point at which they just stop when they're full enough. These days, I'm not even hungry before I start...

Linda, I gently say that slim people in most of the developed world have cultural practices that guide them to have a "healthy" relationship with food. Those practices are not training wheels. The practices are how they live. They don't just rely on intuition and random eating. Being able to do that...

I been using 7-minute workout timers available on the web. They go along with http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/09/the-scientific-7-minute-workout/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0 I've also used 4-minute workouts by Craig Ballantyne available for free on youtube, and started supplementing with lighte...

True, and you had a medical reason. It's not likely your infections were caused by lack of water. Your body obviously benefits from the extra flushing. Glad you didn't need meds! I wish I felt many of the benefits others get from many touted practices. I've gone through bouts of drinking a lot more ...

It's amazing how hard a time I can be having after all this time. I have such strong desires for the pleasure that my old binge foods provided. I had to really use my strategies yesterday not to go buy and eat some after work. I did a couple of errands and was almost going to buy fast food fried chi...

That would be 16 cups of water a day. from an article in Scientific American: Where did people get the idea that guzzling enormous quantities of water is healthful? A few years ago Heinz Valtin, a kidney specialist from Dartmouth Medical School, decided to determine if the common advice to drink eig...

I've thought when I retire that I might be a brunch-and-dinner person, although the desire to have a meal at meal time, hungry or not, is an ongoing issue for me. I continue to want more sweets when I have them, but so far, that is an acceptable burden to me. If you continue with your practice of li...

I've been stumbling for several months in this my 4th year of No S and a tiny bit afraid that I wasn't going to make it to year 5, which I consider the gold standard of proof that the changes are really made, but I, too, am feeling that foundation coming back. I certainly know I"m not ready to go pa...

I hope I can be supportive in saying this but it is really way too early to allow yourself to get so frustrated with yourself because everything isn't sailing along easily. (Actually, that is another habit. It goes along with the overeating and is part of the cycle. That's why reducing it also helps...
