When you put in your age in the box below the one for BMI alone and then calculate, in the box below that, it shows the percentile. The average (50%) for women of your age and height is 144 lbs. (I played with the weights until I got it.) Yours right now is in the 42 %ile, so you are lighter than 58...

That is the BMI I was at when I started, though it might have been higher, as I discovered (drat) that I'm an inch shorter than I used to be, so my BMI was higher than I thought. I'm at 24.2 now.

Someone asked if I would say more about what I had read about French eating. Here are rules from a pdf of The French Don't Diet Plan by Dr. William Clower. I also read his first book, The Fat Fallacy, years ago, but it didn't click until No S. And I still opt for some low-fat dairy and add walnuts o...

BTW, I've read that this site actually put a limit on how fast dieters wanted to bet that they would lose weight because it was just too easy of money to make given how ambitious dieters often are. Making the bet on BEHAVIOR is much more reasonable, though it sounds like you must be very honest. Not...

It's very hard to accept when the urge/desire to eat is there that "this is the moment" we're thinking about at other times when we say we don't want to binge or snack or whatever. I remember often thinking (in the beginning) in the car on my way home, as I was having very strong urges to stop and b...

That's where I was at, Lpearl. Actually, since my mid-twenties, I had never liked the image of myself as a dieter. I kept thinking I could be a more natural eater, but using meal-based eating is so much smarter and more efficient. It may not get me skinny without serious mods, but like you I'm not w...

There is no predictable amount of time, just like there is no predictable amount of time when people will be happy with eating less, etc. Each person brings her/his own proclivities. I gently say that being preoccupied with fear around eating is a symptom of an eating disorder. Reinhard is pretty ho...

Auto, it's weird. I wasn't thinking of myself as disciplined, but more as... civilized and discerning. It wasn't that I wanted to be the opposite. It was just that that persona wasn't as important anymore. Similar to when I was younger and convinced myself that I wanted to be "athletic." But it was ...

Deb, I still sometimes have to try in weak moments, but most moments aren't weak. But I didn't put myself through that in the beginn...

Not giving up making the lapses shorter is key. Long term loss maintainers failed many times before they realized they just had to stop letting slip ups derail them for days, weeks, or years at a time. It's not earth-shaking to hear; it's just earth-shaking to DO. Get back on the plan as soon as pos...

I have to remember that about work, especially because for all my anxiety about it and my wildness in class, I don't get that much better results than those who have a more blase attitude. However, it's happening at any one moment has got to be good enough. I can always intend to do better later.
