My computer won't highlight these, but here are my favorite quotations: But Madelyn Fernstrom, TODAY's diet and nutrition editor, says that the real-life takeaway here is less about skipping dinner, and more about simply eating less frequently. "An earlier study showed that if you ate three times a ...

Many NO S users don't like admitting that it is possible to follow it and not lose, but I gently say that it can't trick your body into losing weight without a deficit. And it can be discouraging just how little the body needs. I know one program that I very much trust the truth of but which I would...

I want to clarify that I actually find that physical hunger is much LESS likely to go away than virtual hunger. Or should I say I can divert myself more easily from virtual. Dunno what that name would be, but it would be helpful to have one. The British have the term "peckish" that I wish we could use for it. Your spacing sounds relatively reasonable, but it's your appetite. More than 6 hours is starting to push it for me, unless I'm involved in something really compelling. Five hour-gaps are more common. Extra fried chicken and extra cake AFTER having plenty and then ICE CREAM for dinner a few hours later. But the difference is I didn't weigh. I've seen it too many times. And I'm sure you didn't eat 21...

I know it sounds paradoxical and is, but I'm an ex-binger and bingers don't eat because they're hungry. I wanted to quit binging because I felt so crappy a lot of the time. No S made me feel so much better so much more of the time, but in the last several months, I don't feel better. I would often w...

Yes, if she didn't eat most of her food with guilt, it wasn't really an American diet! I"m surprised by the big breakfast, too. I've never heard of French women eating more than little toasts with homemade jam or a croissant or even just a bowl, yes, a bowl, of coffee with milk in the morning. I sti...

I have three of Anne Barone's books, so I like her, but she can be very mean, calling overweight women "fatties" and such. Shaming techniques do not really work for most overeaters, or women overeaters, I don't think. They feel plenty of shame already. But I use many of her principles all the time. ...

I've been reading through some of your thread and hope I can offer some solace, as someone who has been No S-ing for 40 months and has seen a lot on the boards. Try to stop analyzing your S days so much (I know- painful! How can I do that? but any reduction will be a blessing) and attempt to give up...

I've browsed through your posts. You're on track, if you need to hear it. I have to admit something, though, and I hope it won't discourage you. Bingeing was my issue and I'm 40 months in. I still get urges sometimes. I've given up expecting them to go away completely, or at least for another couple...

Don't set yourself up with an romanticized view of "normal." Normal people do give attention to eating. It's actually not normal to completely forget about food unless you're eating. Even in slim cultures, people look forward to and reminisce over wonderful meals, and make efforts to eat moderately....

I think the site physicsdiet.com still has the ability to track your moving average automatically. Ignore the advice of the hacker's diet. I used to weigh every day and average the weights once a week, which simulates how scientists weigh items they work with. Or measure your abdomen. Or just track ...

I think you need to make conquering your eating issues #1. What if your smoking was artificially keeping your weight down ten pounds? Or are you aware that you've been eating more as a replacement habit and not because you're actually more hungry? Just figure that you're going to use NO S as a smart...

I started seriously just after Christmas of 2009, when I was 56, and seeing that I had been struggling with this since I was 18 really helped. I kept thinking, I don't want to overeat all the time for my last years alive, and if I don't do it now, when will I? I knew I could take a few years to get ...

I don't know if I already talked about it but the new "stressor" is that my appetite has decreased even more and I don't feel happy anymore with how little I have to eat to get hungry for my meals. I don't feel as much pleasure anymore from my meals, and that was a big reward for a long time, enough...

I didn't try to rein in my S days for two years, even though they were terrible. I just couldn't stand the thought of restricting myself one little bit. But eventually, I felt so crappy on Sunday and Monday that I was able to start weaning myself off eating so much. For instance, I'd still start Sat...

Oh, my. Actually a little worried today. I haven't had more than a few green N days in weeks. Yesterday, I had a full-blown crash the car eating day, though it's funny how much less food it takes for that. I didn't eat a half a cake or a bag of Hershey's kisses, but enough that I have an eating hang...

Caught up with your thread. Hope this month is continuing to go well. I affirm for you that you be released from any obsession with this, though in this darn culture, I'm not sure how that happens. Reinhard doesn't know how lucky he was to find a wife who is one of the few women who didn't stress ab...

This is a little embarrassing. I'm a 59-year-old high school English teacher whom you might think wouldn't appreciate this blog, but I, too, was howling. The idea that a restaurant steamed its rice in cocaine vapor! And that he hoped naturally thin people would die in a fire. So mean and real! I hop...
