Low salt will be a challenge but your health is worth it. You'll also find that eating less intensely salted foods will make those old favorites taste really salty after awhile. It will make it easier to cut them later with more bland side dishes.

It is really useful to put all the food together before you start. Reinhard would likely say it's more important to err on the side of too much food to start but have it all together so you get a chance to see what it all looks like together. Roxy, you are exhibiting the classic signs of reigniting the attachment to sweets. If you abstain for long periods, as you have, the urges will for the most part go underground. If you eat the food again, the desire will come back and if you give in to the urge to overeat (the desire will be strong)...

I've been taking lunch to work (and two snacks, back in the day) for 25 years. I was too poor years ago and I'm too cheap now to buy out. Besides, I bring better quality, even if lunches have gotten better. And I prefer more Middle Eastern and Indian tastes.

No, that's public school. I believe I read that parents actually kick in for the food, but there are subsidies for lower wage earners, rather like our school lunch programs. Did you see that one day there was no dessert and two days it was basically a pear? I'm betting the portion would be considere...

Most of us are stimulated to eat more with the taste of sweet. But it can become a habit to eat only a small amount. Ten years ago, I think to Parisian women at least it wouldn't occur to eat a bar of chocolate. My understanding is that they have as quare with an espresso after a meal. I think your ...

Just commenting on your "no grandchildren soon." I teach high school sophomores and I'm always saying to them, "You're not thinking about kids until you're 25, right?" They laugh, but I'm hoping it will stave things off for a few of them.

Reinhard says you CAN (but don't have to) declare two extra S days per month for birthdays, HOLIDAYS, etc. The longer...

Been following you a bit. It's great that you're still here!

Children so need models of eaters who enjoy food and don't give the impression that it's evil and/or that it's meant to be gorged for entertainment. It sounds like you are pulling this off.

Good idea! I tried No S in the fall of 2008, had brief early success, then fell off for all but a few weeks until Dec. 26 of 2009. Then I made a year commitment, and it has stuck. I had some real struggles but I just can't imagine living with more restriction than this. I've done it before and it wa...

I'm fine with my eating, despite the fact that I didn't keep my mod yesterday. I was surprised by how good it felt to eat the sweets I did. I felt funnier about eating dinner later, as I wasn't hungry, but a few old stimuli came together and I ate. Ate dinner out and had even less than usual. Felt g...

Do you have the book? There is some good stuff on eating when hungry starting on page 50. I think Reinhard has said that his dinner time is earlier now than when he wrote the book because of his kids. For the sake of routine and sociability, I think the idea is to eat together. This would mean you'd...

It sounds like you had a nice time. Good! As you saw, not everyone didn't eat more dessert out of politeness. They'd just had enough. Thin people don't like being too full, except maybe once in a great while. I know it's said that they do monitor their food, but I don't believe they are plagued for ...

No, I don;t think you'll gain it back. Maybe you've just been overeating for a long time and you're just naturally in the deficit that releases fat from your body. Plus your goal was probably not your body's natural weight. If you're eating happily, just keep going. Your body will find its place to ...

Body image issues are mentally painful and rob you of much of life no matter how much you weigh. In other words, you don't need to weigh a certain amount to "qualify" for help. You have a mental image problem and a self-valuing problem, not a weight problem. You deserve help. The fact that you don't...

I'm glad you brought this up because even here I see an emphasis by some on aiming for rather low weights when habits are the real issue. I'm with BrightAngel for starting today. Be honest and assess your hunger for dinner, though don't skip it. Try to see that perhaps having a broth-based soup and a hunk of bread or the like is just a rational way to have the semblance of a meal without eating a lot, much like a "normal" person would...

Never believe your thoughts after you've been eating a lot. Overeating definitely affects your thoughts, especially too much refined food. It's also part of the habit, so the two get linked. I'm not sure how busy you have to be, but humans for millions of years led lives greatly reduced in activity ...
