a 3-meals proponent I missed in the early 2000's

Because I'm still looking for the way the (now mild but still annoying) overeating on S days can be managed, I stumbled on a book by Victoria Moran called Fit from Within. Apparently, she's been an anti-diet but spiritual proponent of weight loss since 1999. I know it wouldn't have turned me around ...

I had three months of perfect Vanilla No S and had lost ten pounds when I ran into trouble. It's been bumpy on and off but nothing like the decades of bingeing/compulsive overeating I had done before. In fact, I feel pretty solid and normal most of the time, but if you had read my check in thread ov...

Actually, Wansink has shown that people who consistently use smaller plates eat less. Of course, even if you put all dense foods on a small plate and pile it up, you could end up eating a lot of calories. I would not be able to get the food I need to satisfy hunger (I'm pretty sure) if I didn't have...

Better that the book comes back than that the random eating does. :D I keep two copies of the book. One for me and an extra just in case some poor victim shows interest. If I give one away, I just order a new one. My goal over time is to read it as many times as I read Little Women when I was a girl...

I came back from a 5-week trip to Bali (on other side of International Dateline) in summer of 2000 and it took weeks to get back on schedule. A real drag when I would be awake nearly all night and still have to teach during the day. Not just awake. Sitting up and active! Been through menopause since...

I find NO S can fit very well with trips. I look forward to the meals and have coffee in between. I've gotten pretty good at not eating just because others are. It sometimes bothers them more than it bothers me! I just have an image in my head of a skinny housewife in the '60's sitting and having a ...

I missed the reference about the 60 cm ovens. I thought someone meant French kitchens tend not to have ovens. They weren't standard in Iranian kitchens when I lived there. Most of the cuisine was stews, kebabs, rice, etc. All stove top. They bought bread fresh from neighborhood commercial ovens. The...

Reinhard does talk of shame, but the plate is as much for just having a limiting factor. Shame is for when you're piling the food up meal after meal with no reduction in eating. (Frankly, for most repeat dieters, if shame worked to motivate them, they'd all be skinny.) I've eaten less over time, but...

The U.S. is famous for having large plates. The average plate has increased since the 70's to about 10 inches, but many here on No S, including Reinhard, I think, have purposely gone back to smaller plates, such as luncheon plates. I use my big ones for dinner.

different athletic physiques

I like this board a lot because there is so little attention on the craziness of diet and exercise, and because it's such a smart crowd, IMHO. However, though this kind of thing is not usually our focus, I thought someone here might know why track and field athletes I've watched on the Olympics have...

In the book, one of the justifications for not having fruit between meals is because then you might use that as an excuse to have a larger serving of something more dense on your plate at meal time because you feel you would have met your fruit requirement in a snack.
