They might get a little more patient/accepting if they know this is the way it is! Might help them get out of diet head before they give up.

Ouch, that is a little complicated. Is there any 1-2 hour window morning, mid-dayish and eveningish on workdays that you ccould eat in no matter what the work hours? It does seem that there should be a way for you to have an evening meal at evening time no matter how late you work. In other words, i...

Yes, Jen, most people who stick with it eventually find themselves eating less food, IF they are intent on being sensitive to their needs and not just insisting that if they can have a plate of food, they can have a plate of anything. Reinhard says the limit to three plates should help people be awa...

I've been at this for 28 months and it IS the way to live. As you've gleaned, don't be in a hurry to get to eating the least you can. You will eat less as time goes on after hundreds of plates. To want to get it all figured out in a few weeks is diet-head. Not only are you learning something new, yo...

You're in the 18 %ile? Just how many people do you need to be thinner than? Seriously, think about it. :) What percentile will you be in at 132? Maybe the reason you were struggling to keep the weight off is that you aren't meant to without being in semi-starvation. Don't mean to be mean but underst...

I've come to the conclusion that I am expecting a sweetness to life that I used to look to food to fill. These days, I can usually shift my thinking (that life isn't sweet enough in the moment of the URGE) and see that things are actually usually fine, even when there's trouble. I'm okay in that mom...

You didn't fail me, silly pudding! What you experienced is what is informally known in pyschology circles (really) is the what-the-hell syndrome. You nibbled and then way overate. It's normal! You'll do it until you don't. No S-ers are very familiar with it. Here we say don't crash the car just beca...

Just had to comment on Oliver-Pratt. If she is who I think she is, she talks like she invented the idea that women are media brainwashed and that eating when hungry, etc. is the bomb. Susie Orbach was talking about women rebelling against thin ideals and many oppressive ideas against women way befor...

Sarah, I gently suggest you might feel deprived no matter what changes you try to make. You are going to have to confront the idea that you should be able to eat whatever you want whenever you have an urge. We have a thread here about URGE- untimely response greatly exaggerated. The only way people ...

An observation I made on my own experience in the past was that when I felt bad "about my weight," the truth was I often felt bad because I was eating so much that I never got hungry and then ate moderately. I was full all the time. That can happen even when you're thin and is what I think skinny pe...

If that's the middle of your range, you are about my height? (5'6"). I would be very happy at 142! I remember what I looked like 20 years ago at that weight- when I thought I should lose 10-15 pounds. What a fool I was! I'm determined to enjoy what I have now, and whatever happens with consistent ex...

So are you saying you are at 150 and that's fine? Your signature says you want to lose more. Don't be surprised if you do lose more when you keep going and incorporate exercise. Or you just may lose size. But if you are in the middle of your BMI range, I imagine you look good. I'm at the top of mine...

The only reasons people laugh and think this is weird is that they are either people who naturally eat only what their body needs or they are in denial that they have a problem and that this crazy culture has got them brainwashed. There are a lot of naturally slim people who seldom snack and there a...

Most of the above and I have about 40 on my desktop at home. 1. A lot has to do with just having a lifelong desire to beat food because I KNOW I just don't need the amount I eat in a week. And to prove it can be done without traditional dieting. 2. If I"m honest, vanity does have something to do wit...

Oh, why did you eat such a small dinner and then go hungry? You are not on a diet! And even if you eat more to start, it is easier to eat less as you go than the other way around. Give the plan a chance! and go this site and promise that if you find out that you are in the 50%ile or less, you will g...

You have really got to let go of the scale for awhile. You are actually not even overweight! I know you weighed less for a long time and you can probably get back there (or close) but you've got to heal first. To heal means you've got to convince your subconscious that you are not going to punish he...

Although I have a bit of a desire to weigh less, I have an even more important (to me) desire to have consistently moderate weekends. I just still have too many instances of scarfing a lot of cookies fast or events like that. Times when I know I just don't need the excess, but I do it anyway. I'm no...

My family had dessert every night and ice cream later. A small square of cake. One scoop of ice cream. And we had sugared cereals, though we often had Cheerios and Rice Krispies, which are less obvious than the ones I preferred. And we had oatmeal, or eggs, too. Right, Mom didn't work. I wasn't actu...

Reinhard admits that sweets and stress eating were never his issues. I think he was into snacking and probably guy-like; bags of chips and such just because it was fun, not because he was drowning his sorrows. Yeah, girls do that, too, but they are bingeing/hating it the whole time. Guys are just pi...

Been thinking about whether my lapses have come because of my making it into my normal BMI range. I am doubting it because truth be told, I do have a latent wish to get back to my high school weight, which I don't think is unreasonable because 1) I'm still not exercising regularly, 2) my S days stil...
