Remember that 2-meal Mike does have an agenda about building muscle and changing his body. That is how he decides his success, and if that's important enough, I guess it's worth "boring." I, too, like more variety, though it's within confines, and it doesn't seem to make me eat a lot more. If it doe...

I think I mentioned somewhere else on a thread about a 19th century fitness proponent that he said two meals a day should be enough for those not involved in manual labor. I haven't had that pattern, but I think I understand it. The brain pattern of overeating is very easy to reignite. Food is such a basic reinforcer! Are you hungry for your meals? And do you let yourself get hungry on the weekends? You won't do this forever, and No S has never said you need to start with "healthy" meals. I think it's about getting it out of your system. As Reinhard implies, it's unlikely you're going to be able to look at popcorn dinners as a good idea night after night. Over the course of a year, it will bala...

I call it the eating plan I use. I'm pretty sure I talked somewhere else about a study done on obese people who ate at least 500-calorie breakfasts that included something sweet. They lost much more weight than the comparison group mostly because they stuck with the total program for longer. The com...

I don't know if the 5-lb. weights will be big enough for the bicep work, but the DVD I Want That Body by TamiLee Webb has 2 mostly bodyweight workout, both about 15 minutes, that I use moves from often. When I was using it consistently a few years ago, some people noticed. However, I just like to mi...

That was a rant? I'm glad the Center seemed to have a beneficial effect. I am afraid that a fair amount of this is relatively intractable for some. I've occasionally checked out the site Something Fishy on eating disorders and it seems so sad that there are women who are still practicing bulimia ten...

a little competition?
Okay, I got a bug to organize my videos while my rice finished cooking before dinner. I reported this on my check-in but I'll repeat it here to see if anyone else can top this idiocy. I have fewer than 10 actual movies but I of fitness videos I have 23 DVD's and 28 videocassettes. (I also have Debbi...

A good day with food. got my workout in and an extra walk. I got work done and am willing to do more. I also sat down to try arrange my videos. I was going to do it for just 15 minutes. I have only a few movies, but I found I have 23 fitness DVDs and 28 fitness videocassettes. And I have Debbie Sieb...

BTW, I didn't coin the phrase. It was from the title of an anti-diet book. One of the ones that recommended a plan that I couldn't implement at the time. It was one of the eat-from-hunger books, but it also recommended eliminating sweets and most junk food from the start. I came in the back door ins...

It's just as well that you don't know there is any other way to do it. I've been on the boards for over two years and I think I can say that the majority of people who start messing with Vanilla No S in the first 6 months don't find the mod that works any better. A fair number quit and come back aga...

Okay, you're on your FOURTH DAY. It is way too early to be worrying about whether you are eating too much. Let the process happen and don't expect quick weight loss or everything to be over in a week or two! But at first, I did add to my meals about what I would have had as a snack. Very quickly I c...

If I may be so bold, Blithe Morning, do you think you could add your report of Baumeister here? (BTW, none of the icons/code thingies on No S work for me, so I hope you'll cut and paste this link the the thread I started on his book.)

P.S. Saw your note about vacation. Dovetails with Baumeister says about losing weight. Use limited willpower to implement plans for specific situations. It's funny because I think of vacations as a way to get away from too much food. I just don't think of the opportunity to overeat as fun anymore, a...

I decided to try chewing gum for a bit. It turned into a binge scene. I chewed so much and so long, my jaw hurt! Funny thing is I haven't bought any gum for days and I haven't thought about it. I guess it's run its course. Thank goodness! I've got enough to deal with. So what coping mechanisms were ...

You know, the issue with sweets for me is so paradoxical. I don't want them when I'm actually hungry; I want savory food. Then when I have the chance to have them, now that I eat less, it almost seems a waste to have them when I'm satisfied from a meal. But I still want to have the pleasure of eatin...

It sounds like you are getting to the point where you see there is no more satisfaction in the experience of extra food, especially...

Yes, vee shall be your taskmasters! Now, drop and give me 20! :) Once again, I want to point out that thin people rarely feel any obligation to eat food because someone prepared it for them. If they think it will taste good and make them feel good-- they don't like to be too full-- they have it. Oth...

Well, it's not completely mind games, although the brain is involved. Whatever you do consistently will likely become an expected habit. If you can always limit yourself to a small amount, no problem. Maybe that's what you can habituate yourself to, esp. if you stick to the other rules and let your ...

That is a bit of dilemma. To try to eat before work would mean a pretty early dinner, if you wanted to really sit and enjoy it. I wonder if you could have a bigger lunch on those work days and then be happy with a lighter "dinner" that you could enjoy on your break? Just an idea. I'm a little surpri...

Well, there is theory and then there is praxis... But it's true. Dovetails with Judith Beck advising "dieters" to actually write out an index card or carry one from her book that says NO CHOICE. Usually, once the decision is made, it is easier. Some people use this as a reason to swear off sugar for...
