@Wosnes - So, towards the end of the month, you have peasant (higher carb) meals which you enjoy, but, as you said earlier, you tend to lose weight when you eat that way. That is just what I've been hypothesising - peasant food is less likely to provoke eating to excess. I'm not saying one can't en...

One of my current favorite soups, Potato and Rice soup, would certainly be peasant food. Occasionally I'll add some lentils in place of part of the rice, or a rind of Parmesan if I have it, or a couple of ounces of Italian sausage. But even my itself, it's very tasty. People from all parts of Asia h...

@Who Me? & Wosnes - are you saying you find a food such as polenta, or grits or rice - without any added items or flavourings (which is the point I was trying to make) interesting? I was thinking the carbohydrate elements of peasant diets were a bit like lab chow for rats - sufficient for bodily ne...

Someone here has posted about The Martini Diet previously; that's how I found out about it. That person had some confusion about portion sizes on the diet. I found an example of what they should be today. Each constituent in a meal must be able to fit into a 3 oz Martini glass. As an example when se...

It's Clara's Kitchen by Clara Cannucciari. Great little book -- not a "diet" at all, but an example of how her family ate (and she continued to eat and cook) during the Great Depression. I agree with the books mentioned above and I'll also cast a vote for French Women Don't Get Fat . I'm also intere...

I voted "no" because I'm worried about the calories in juice -- which is only partially true. I rarely drink juice; occasionally a glass of orange juice at breakfast. Juice eliminates the "good stuff" in fruit -- the fiber and gives you all the calories and sugar. Plus, it takes more than one servin...

I agree with you that carbs are not evil, but bread or potatoes certainly can make you fat, if you eat them all day. No S is about giving up the futile search for some magic food that you can eat as much as you want of, whenever you want, feel satisfied, and not gain weight. Sugar-free or carb-free...

I read that it was ratings too. And I'm sure that's part of it. But I don't think it's ALL of it. I mean, after only two episodes, how bad can the ratings be? It won an Emmy last year which is probably why ABC lined it up for May sweeps month. And now they move it to Friday nights in June which is ...

This is probably why food costs in many other areas of the world are much higher than in the US -- there's less factory farming, and at least until recently, nearly all the food was organic, though it wasn't labeled organic -- it was the way food was grown. It might be a little on the slow end, but I think it's reasonable. Although, at one point in time my doctor told me that he'd be happy with 10-12 pounds yearly. In addition, in terms of health, it's the first 5-10 pounds that make the most difference and the last 5-10 pounds makes little difference.

. Which leads to the question, "When is a plateau really a plateau?" If you don't lose any weight for a couple of weeks? A month? A couple of months? How do you tell the difference between (1) your body taking a break from weight loss, and (2) you needing to eat better and/or change up your exercis...
