Re: Oatmeal

I know oatmeal is becoming more popular now. There was an article in the newspaper the other day about this and they even started sellin' it at McD. (They probably add a lot of SUGAR there though, so it makes you want to get it all the time, like an addict, you know !!) Mark Bittman wrote about the...

The blog KCCC linked to actually has some good advice if you do decide to slowly wean yourself off the Diet 7up (I didn't know they even made that in caffeine free) especially regarding replacement drinks. I've never tried just adding a little splash of fruit juice to water - I don't drink any juic...

I think that this is the thing I don't get: (Why the French don't get Fat? an idea) "which has baffled the world's best scientific brains for a decade"? That's certainly a reminder of how large we're getting. I can remember two specific patients from my nursing career: One was a man who was so large that they had to bolt two beds together for him. The Taiwanese students (who were, with a few exception, quite slim) had a name for Western and Northern Chinese people who were larger and taller (but not necessarily fat) -- it translates to "bread people," as opposed to "rice people." Nope, it's not evil. I have a special rule for pizza on N days. One slice for breakfast or lunch, two slices for dinner. Two slices is generally what fits on my plate without stacking. Ditto. Just start by eating a reasonable amount at meals and see what happens. Remember this: there's nothing wrong with being hungry. We've been taught to eat every time we feel hunger. That's very unusual and we can see where it got us -- overweight. This is from Mark Bittman's book Food Matters : There'...

There is no one answer to your question. Some folks eat whatever they want on S days -- even if that means multiple snacks, sweets and seconds. Some people choose one snack or treat and that's it. Others fall in between.

Maybe the trick is not to think of this as a "diet" in the sense of "I'm going on a diet, " but a diet in terms of how you eat. With the exception of sweets on N days, there's no food restriction.

I think it's unfortunate that No-S is called a "diet", though I can't think of what else to call it.
