Cabbage and especially beans are a big part of my diet, and the natural gas exists for about a week -- then no more than "normal." Your intestinal flora may vary. I've been trying to eat more beans since about the first of the year, and I still try to avoid closed, not-well-ventilated spaces. I thi...

I like beans and that's a lot of beans, too, more than twice as many pounds of beans than cabbage! They're both staples in my depression era diet, but certainly not as much as he suggests!

I don't think 8 or 9 is "late" at night. There are many places around the world where the last meal of the day is consumed at that time and where breakfast is the least important meal of the day. Unless you have some digestive issues, it really doesn't matter.

I think the importance of breakfast is highly overrated. I LOVE breakfast food, just not in the morning. Some people do well with it; others do well without it. Do what works for you.

I've been thinking about "dieting" lately and while most of us have done it at one time or another, I don't think it's a normal way to live. Worrying about food isn't good for your health -- and probably not your weight, either.

I bake bread once or twice weekly. When I bake bread I make a little extra dough -- and I have pizza. Sometimes it's quite plain, other times there's more variety in the toppings. The pizza nights are among my favorites!

I usually have a salad with the pizza.

I think I understand what you're saying; just admitting that you enjoy pizza or Ben and Jerry's is supposed to make you feel guilty. We've edited pleasure out of eating, not to mention other activities. It's as if there's something wrong with stopping and savoring the pleasures of life.

My basic stance: nutrition is very complicated on the cellular level, but if you follow Michael Pollen's rules combined with No-S on the day-to-day level, you'll do fine. Also, I do think artificial sweeteners contribute HEAVILY to messing up your body. I agree with both of these statements. I thin...
