My basic stance: nutrition is very complicated on the cellular level, but if you follow Michael Pollen's rules combined with No-S on the day-to-day level, you'll do fine. Also, I do think artificial sweeteners contribute HEAVILY to messing up your body. I agree with both of these statements. I thin...

Have you seen these: Small Batch Baking and soon-to-be-released Small Batch Baking for Chocolate Lovers
I've figured out how to cut down a couple of my favorites, but we're not big dessert eaters, except for cookies. I freeze extras in single serving portions.

I emailed the link in the article and suggested No-S... and specifically said it should be credited to Reinhard. Gave a link to the website too. Hope something comes of that. :) I think Reinhard contacted Michael Pollan after we saw the mention in the first book. Pollan said that he would be credit...

I really did panick because that feeling of eating so much and such "bad" food makes me feel so out of control. Oh, you've hit one of my biggest pet peeves! For your purposes at this time in following No-S, food is neither good nor bad, healthy nor unhealthy. It's food. Snacks and seconds aren't wh...

Tell us exactly what you did/ate that made you an idiot. I suspect that it's not nearly as bad as you think it is. In reading your posts, I think (and this is certainly my opinion only) that you're very hard on yourself. The first time you wrote about something like this happening, what you describe...

I don't think four cups of coffee daily is excessive, but that's me. In regards to the milk/cream added, I wouldn't worry about it too much -- at least not right now. I doubt that you're using the equivalent of a glass of milk in your four cups of coffee. Even if you are, you could have a glass of m...

Food Rules is actually where I heard about No S and why I decided to Google and ultimately buy the book. My Mom loaned Food Rules to me and it's a pretty good book but I have to admit that some of his rules went in one ear and out the other. The "it's not food if it comes through the window of your...

Every day Dr. Oz for example is talking about a different health problem, weight loss and super food. I'm just sick of hearing about it already you know? I'll watch Oz on occasion, but usually I change the channel before he comes on -- and watch reruns of The Cosby Show! Culturally we certainly see...

Hey, Reinhard! New Food Rules
Michael Pollan is writing a new, expanded edition of Food Rules. No-S should be mentioned in this one! I'm not sure if "next fall" is 2011 or 2012.

Be prepared for a huge difference in cost. At my local farmer's market, a whole chicken or 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts cost about $16. I bought some beef short ribs (just enough to serve 2-3 people) and paid over $20. All of them were, however, extremely tasty. While I enjoy meat, I eat les...

There's an intro about meal planning and mise en place. This is a section in my Household Notebook, and is v...

That information sounds good, but perhaps it isn't really true. This is exactly how I feel when I read what Taubes writes. One thing that bothers me about this is that protein metabolism is hard on the kidneys, especially if one is at risk for diabetes or already diabetic. I've seen people follow h...

However, a low carb regime for the whole world seems to pose a problem: is a world-wide low carb diet possible with the current level of world population? If low-carb means eating lots more animal fat and protein wouldn't that be both costly and ecologically unsustainable? What is the affordable su...

Gary Taubes : Here I side with Michael Pollan. If you’re eating “food†instead of food–like substances, the fat it contains will be at the very least harmless and probably beneficial. I'll have to say I've stopped worrying about fat. I try not to go crazy, but I certainly don't worry about i...

With the exception of allowing myself an S daily, I wouldn't call anything I do a modification of No-S. BTW, I didn't modify No-S (in terms of how I handle S-days) until I'd been following No-S for about two years). For health reasons, I avoid most processed foods. As for Pollan, what he teaches is ...
