The rationale behind breakfast being the most important meal of the day is that it gives you energy and nutrients to start the day and people who don't eat breakfast tend to eat more later in the day -- and consume more calories than if they had eaten breakfast. That being said, there are a lot of c...

I completely agree with the food aspect of the article, but not the exercise. People really did move around more back then. Kids walked to school, and Mom walked with them if they were little. Mom hung the laundry outside on a clothesline. Two-car families were rare, so she also walked to the groce...

Re: Walk away the Pounds/dealing with depression
Just feeling so depressed today and not getting enough sleep last night doesn't help...Plus my weight seems stuck at the moment and I feel I'm doing all I know to do. I think you have to remember that you're truly not in control of your weight. You're only in control of what you do. Sometimes you l...

Made this last night... Italian Pannini. I've linked to the origial, and here's my variation. A new recipe that we had last night, inspired by garden tomatoes and basil. I made homemade foccacia early in the day, and let it cool. (Original recipe called for sourdough or French bread, but I had doug...

Last year I found this recipe for Fresh Corn and Avocado Salsa . I cut it in half and made some other changes. I used only corn, avocado, red onion and red bell pepper. I'd already made a salad dressing using 3 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons lime juice and 1 tablespoon honey. I used that inste...

The scale I have tends to give different weights depending on how you stand on it and so thats one of the reasons I usually stand on it a few times to get a correct weight. I wanted something better anyways. Something more accurate. I'm gonna pass this one down to a family member. They all do that....

This is one of my favourite S-day treats. If it's not an S day, you should probably not look directly at this recipe. FRUIT COBBLER Mix together: 1 cup flour 1 cup white sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt Add 1 cup milk and stir until you get a smooth batter. Melt 1 stick butter into a baking d...

I think I'm going to have to add in A LOT more fruit and veggies to my meals. I'm just worried about gettiing hungry between meals...since fruit and veggies don't really "fill ya up". I once followed a diet that was based on vegetables, fruits, legumes and one serving of grains or starchy vegetable...

And you know what else I noticed? People used to actually dress up to go to a lunch counter, heck I was recently at a funeral and nobody looked this good. Well, my husband and I did but we are "old school". Thanks for the pic, looks like the Woolworths where I grew up. Oh, don't get me started. It ...

I had no idea dinner plates were getting larger until we bought new dishes last year. I'd had the same set of every day dishes for about twenty years. I finally got tired of looking at the same plates day in and day out so I bought a new set. Imagine my surprise when the new dinner plates didn't fi...

I think someone, probably me, has posted this here before, but I can't find it.
It's a good visual about why we're getting heavier. I wonder how it has changed in the last two years.

Supposedly it's the only thing that has been shown to actually increase the lifespan. Michael Pollan has mentioned it in both his article Unhappy Meals and his book In Defense of Food .
