It's no wonder we're confused about what to eat -- and what to avoid. I received this article by Dr. Andrew Weil on Friday. This arrived Tuesday. If you want to get even more confused, or amused, read the comments to Weil's article. I think both of the doctors are at least partially right. Dr. Weil ...

Even if you don't make "health food" the food will be healthier because when you cook you don't put artificial crap in it. I attribute part of my No S success to my increase in cooking meals. Not...

Wow, I hadn't thought of that ... but it's true. Some women would think about it, should they get pregnant and gain 50 pounds or more ???? It would be something to consider probably. What if you have a child .. gain 60 pounds then lose it within a year or two and then ... get pregnant again, gain a...

I have a hard time respecting Jillian, period. I do NOT like the way she treats the folks she is suppose to be "helping". i sure wouldn't her "helping' me! I wouldn't either -- but that kind of motivation (?) does work for some people. I assume that the folks who want to be on Biggest Loser or her ...

The Kingsolver book is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It's a good read -- I really enjoyed it. There was a lot about eating locally and seasonally that I'd not considered previously.

Wosnes..I have been a fan of Stephanie plum but..I think she is getting to long -in-the-tooth to still be trying to decide between two men.. who both seem at bit juvenile, by the way. I don't think Stephanie has actually aged -- she's still early 30s and I know some still going through that. It jus...

but what about the "brekker is important" principle? is that also a myth then? I've never found breakfast to be an important meal. It's considered the least important meal in some other areas of the world (throughout the Mediterranean, for example). I've found that the more substantial my breakfast...

I just read Spoon Fed by Kim Severson. She's a food writer for the New York Times and writes about how 8 cooks influenced her: Alice Waters, Marcella Hazan, her mother, Rachael Ray, Marion Cunningham, Leah Chase -- and others that I can't remember right now. It also touches on her problems with alco...

Your post reminds me of a story I heard years ago. I'll repeat it to the best of my memory: Two men were having lunch. The first man said, "Peanut butter and jelly. Every day, peanut butter and jelly. I'm sick of peanut butter and jelly." The second man says, "Why don't you ask your wife to make you...

Regular milk is not a snack. In fact, it's one of the things you can have between meals. Chocolate milk is generally considered a sweet and/or snack. Would that mean that milk has to be had unsweetened? Because sugar in tea/coffee is allowed, so why not sugar in milk? Because there's a lot more sug...

Clara's Bread
I've been interested in trying the bread from Great Depression Cooking . The video isn't exact about the ingredients, but the book is. It makes 6 loaves of bread. Not only do I not have six bread pans, I don't have the space to keep six loaves of bread! I cut the recipe by 2/3 and made 2 loaves. I c...

Not true for me. I had always allowed some one else to determine my calorie deficit as I now understand it- whether that was WW, SB or even Nos. Additionally, I still get sticker shock with foods. Not as much as I did before but it still happens. Especially with healthy sounding items. I know for s...

I'm glad the Fit for Life theories haven't proven a problem for you, wosnes - Diamond's recommendation that we eat nothing but fruit till noon and no fruit after that, was too punishing for a fruitivore like me. Here's the big secret about weight loss: however you decide to do it, it's got to be something you can do every day for the rest of your life. Otherwise as soon as you lose the weight and go "off" the plan, you'll start gaining again. Can you lose that amount of weight on No-S? Of course you can. No...

Hunger between meals is perfectly healthy, unless you know you have a blood sugar issue. Hunger and low blood sugar aren't necessarily related. You can have low blood sugar and not be hungry. You can be hungry and not have low blood sugar. Most people who say they have low blood sugar issues 1) hav...

One thing I don't think No-S addresses well is that we all need different amounts of calories. For some folks that may require seconds (either a second plate/bowl or second servings). I'm a smaller, older, less active woman. I need somewhere between 1300-1500 calories daily and that easily fits on o...
