Turning Your Work Day into Weight Loss
This is interesting. It validates something I've believed for a long time. You don't need to bust your butt to lose weight. Doing something consistently, even though slowly, is equally as beneficial as high-intensity workouts in terms of weight loss.

Funny you should mention eclairs -- they're definitely one of my favorite treats and fall right in with other comfort foods from my childhood. I'm going to have to find a bakery that really makes them from scratch. I did find a recipe from Gale Gand on the Food Network. They don't seem to be too dif...

I can justify one snack daily -- late in the afternoon if dinner is going to be late, say, after 7 or so (assuming lunch was around noon). That's it. RJLupin -- I saw a new way of cooking French fries yesterday and thought of you! Time consuming, but possibly not quite so messy and supposedly the fr...

I think it depends on where you live as well. I don't only mean metropolitan areas as compared to smaller towns, but also what state or area/region of the country. The gal who did the $25/wk thing lives in Brooklyn, NY (I think -- I know it's one of the boroughs of NYC). Nearly all of the things she...

It's been over 25 years since mine were little ones, but I do remember what I did. I was up before them in the morning and if I was going to eat (I'm not much of a breakfast eater), I ate before I fed them. At lunch and dinner, they were fed before I ate. At lunch, they were fed and down for a nap b...

Simple Meal Plan
Another good article from Zen Habits . While I like his ideas, Leo's actual meal plan doesn't appeal to me at all. I do follow a meal plan that I stumbled onto about 10 years ago. It's simple and makes sense to me and I've found a number of variations of it. Plus, I have default plans in case I can'...

I also learned to use a timer with FlyLady. I'm still fluttering though. It really is amazing how much one can get done in 15 minutes! I try to combine FlyLady with No S. I set my timer for 15 minutes and trot to each room. I call it home ranging. I get a lot of excersize this way. I hate excersize...

That was actually sort of the turning point in my switching to No S from years of lowcarbing on and off (more off than on , of course!). I was agonizing over not being able to have a glass of OJ at breakfast (and for me that means one of those little 4 oz. juice glasses) and a sugar cube in my tea....

I think the only reason to limit any food is because it's not available, not affordable, you don't like it or are allergic to it. I've mentioned this before, but it was a shock to my system when I realized that those healthy Greeks didn't eat low-fat or no-fat yogurt or cheese. It was also a surpris...

In the movie Food, Inc. there's a family who are eating mostly fast food because they supposedly can't afford food, especially fresh produce. A lot of viewers have taken issue with this, stating that it could be afforded if they shopped at farmer's markets, etc. A blogger recently completed a challe...

The Guatemalan diet reminds me of what I've read in The Blue Zones about the Nicoyans in the mountains of Costa Rica and about the Tarahumara Indians of the Copper Canyon in Mexico in The Jungle Effect . Very simple and not a lot of variety. The interesting thing about the Tarahumara is that they we...

I think a good part of what keeps the French, Italians, Japanese and others from overeating is habit. They just have centuries of practicing it on us! k Actually, we used to have those habits. I'd love to know how American corporations and advertising got us to change those habits in a few decades. ...

Isn't it great? I love how No S is a diet, but it doesn't feel like a diet. :D I think No-S is a diet only in terms of how you eat. No-S isn't a diet in terms of something you go on to lose weight and off or switch to maintenance once you've lost the weight. Ha! It could also be called No-F: No For...

Though I very well may be cured, the uncertainty is so hard to deal with. Years ago I realized two very important things: 1. I drink lots of diet soda, and have never had a problem with the aspartame sweetened ones. Aspartame has been studied for so many years, I doubt we'll find out anything horrible about it (thought it would probably be best to avoid it "just in case.") Margarine and the vegetable oils were studied fo...

I feel the same way about artificial sweeteners that I feel about manufactured fats: sooner or later it will be determined that they're more harmful to our health than beneficial. Personally, I'd rather drink syrup than chemicals, though I'm not a fan of HFCS, either. I've read that Coke, I think, ...

I make latte like the Italians -- at home, no foam. Oh, I don't use espresso, just strong coffee. For me, it's more coffee than milk and a little sugar.
I don't understand this....I drink coffee black. Can't stand sugar in it. Add milk/cream to it, and I've got to have some sugar in it.

I have to admit that when I hear low-carb I think high protein and high fat. Or, at the very last, more animal protein and fat. If one believes that saturated fat is responsible for elevated cholesterol, then someone following a low-carb diet should have high cholesterol. Among those healthy populat...
