I've never found S days to be difficult to overcome. If you start to restrict them more, you're defeating their purpose, I think.

I don't particularly like the sweetness, but I LOVE carbonation. And my work provides free soda, but not free Perrier or Champagne (damn them), so I end up drinking a lot of diet Coke. I really wish that soda water was as cheap and widely vended as soda. My daughter and I love the carbonation, too.

Well, certainly you can reduce the numbers with diet and weight loss alone. I think the best thing to do is follow No-S and do what Michael Pollan says: Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. There are lots of ways to achieve that and none have to break the bank.

I don't eat breakfast every day. While morning is my favorite time of day and some breakfast foods are among my favorite foods, eating breakfast in the morning has never been appealing. If I eat breakfast, I generally have toast, coffee and fruit. The fruit changes with the seasons.

Too much variety might well be part of it, but it's also that it's always available, we eat super-sized portions 24/7, and we eat food that Mother Nature never meant for human consumption! It's no wonder we're fat and unhealthy.

Something else occurred to me...most of us, even if we exercise regularly, don't burn enough calories to warrant eating 2-3 substantial meals daily. Not only are we not out walking behind horses or oxen plowing fields, life in general is far less active than it was just a generation or two ago.
