I remember back when I was doing strict calorie counting, when I really WANTED to be able to buy smaller portions of junk food. I would have snapped up those 100 calorie packs! A "normal" candy bar has 230-270 calories, which I couldn't "afford" on a low-calorie diet. So, I would buy one and immedia...

Sundays are always harder to keep sane than Saturdays. I wonder why that is? Let's see... Normal breakfast. Doughnuts at early church meeting (The chocolate-covered cake doughnuts that are SO artificial that I'm ashamed that I like them. But I do.). Ate out for lunch at our favorite Chinese buffet, ...

Shannon, just wanted to say how much I enjoy your thread - you're very articulate and thoughtful, and have a strong problem-solving mentality that clearly serves you well. (And I do "5 of 7" for my exercise too - works very well for me. Though my "baseline" is "15 minutes of ANYTHING," so it's extre...

Thank you both. Life is better. Son is quite unhappy about his punishment, but has accepted and is dealing. And that's that - my husband and I try very hard to let it be over when it's over. Sometimes that's hard. But... I broke out a Wii game that I had bought earlier and not gotten around to, one ...

Thanks, Scrybil. My sister likes using her breadmaker to mix dough and then baking in the oven too, but I often don't have enough time at home to accomplish that. Dinner last night was chicken quesadillas, watermelon, figs. Friday Br - oatmeal, figs L (planned) - leftover chicken quesadillas, waterm...

Hi Leafy, Thanks for checking back in to let us know how you have been doing! It sounds as if you're at a stable place, even if it's not where you want to be long term. I have a concept that may (may!) help, that I call "5 degrees of change". Here's where I initially discuss it. http://everydaysyste...

Oh, I like "tunch." And so would my son. The reason you can't imagine a biscuit is because what you call biscuits, we call "cookies," and biscuits are totally different. Our biscuits are more like a non-sweet scone, but round, not triangular. Very light and fluffy, because of all the fat in them (al...

Scrybil, would love to see your recipe. (And welcome back!) Berry, I love, love, love biscuits with gravy - but like you, only get them "out." For one thing, it's so much trouble to make that it stops being a treat - in addition to the problem of quantity that you pointed out. And I am much amused a...

What I don't want is to put myself in a position that the diet feels too restrictive, and then blow it altogether out of frustration. What you said here is the critical piece... and only you can judge. :) However, I think I'd put in one change at a time, just so I could better track how each was wo...

Question: What are your S-days like right now? The reason I ask is that for a long time I was stable because I was losing during the week, then putting it back on the weekend with "wild" S-days. (And I think a lot of people do that.) So, making my S-days more "sane" helped a lot. That's a whole list...

It does seem that people fall into two schools of thought about weighing... 1) Weigh infrequently, so trends are obvious and you aren't distracted by normal variations 2) Weigh frequently, so you learn to ignore the normal variations that often seem to have nothing to do with recent events In either...

I am in an odd place: I could be saying I have some progress to celebrate - yet, when I look at my waist, when I hold the rolls of fat round my middle, I feel I'd be such a fool to do so - it's too soon. Give it a week - during which you stick to habits religously! - and see where you are. Got my bedtime yoga in last night, and over 7000 on the ped. So, okay. Did NOT get sleep, thanks to child-with-nightmare intersecting with my insomnia-if-wakened issues. Sigh. The salmon smelled bad when I opened the package. :( So, we had mac and cheese, peas and carrots, and peaches instead. The strawberries were saved for dessert with the panna cotta. I still like sweets, but my tastes for them have definitely changed. Now a lot of American desserts and candies taste like "pure sugar" to me, and just aren't interesting or enjoyable. I like more complex/subtle flavors, and my desserts have less sugar in them than they used to. And yes, my physical...
