Re: automated eating tracker
Hi Chanda! I describe my way of eating as "moderated carbs". :-) Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with prediabetes over a year ago. I made initial attempts to get rid of processed foods (so eating lots of "healthy whole-grains"), and lost maybe 2 or 3 pounds and saw no improvements in my blood sugars....

Easter. Hmmm. I guess I need to buy some candy for the kids' baskets. Thanks for the reminder! For me? My goal will be to encourage my kids to eat all their candy as fast as possible so it's not around to tempt me anymore. For "breakfast" I just have 2-3 cups of coffee with a delicious local grass-fed milk (did I mention it's delicious?). So that's some decent nutrition right there....

I lost a couple more pounds when I firmly started sticking to my alcohol limits. I'm not sure if it was simply the extra calories of wine, or if, as I've read, alcohol can sort of make the metabolism a bit stickier, probably by making the liver a bit off its game.
Anyway, good for you.

Re: Octavia is finally checking in!
I definitely avoid snacking on S Days and I am glad for it. Makes life better for me. My weekends have sweets but the main thing that is super different about them is that the meals lack nutritional balance, haha. Like not much protein (uh-oh margot!), and mostly carbs, salt, and fat. Oops. B...

I am so in your spot right now. I have chosen not to fight, but to make my normal daily plans, and then if a fail happens, oh well. That is a different approach than to actually planning a WTH day (which I have most definitely done at times) and going out of my way to buy junk and have it around. It...

Here I come in again after missing a boatload of comments. Not surprisingly, I found myself wanting to cut and paste a lot of Octavia's. Nothing stays the same, and maybe IF has morphed into something that you’ve had the wisdom to recognise is no longer working. Yes! Or even just a break after which...

It's tempting to say "you're really stressed, just give up for now and come back to it when you're a bit more chill." But actually, that won't help. This is thought-provoking. On the one hand, I totally get that -- I almost wonder if it's a cyclical teacher thing we deal with. But even though I agr...

Very happy for your progress! In my opinion, don't worry about the exercise at this point. Willpower muscles are easily overworked and then they collapse in multiple areas. :-) Plus, I personally think focusing on eating habits is 80% of weight loss. Don't get me wrong - I think exercise and moving ...

I did a "NoSpending" System for awhile. I literally didn't spend money Monday - Friday. All shopping on the weekends. Even online stuff. It was too hard to keep up with as the kids got more involved with school activities, but I still track my Spending. My loose goal is to shop only once a week. Any...

Sometimes I have a weekend of big eating and I'm shocked at how little I actually gain (I mean, a couple pounds maybe, but not scary horrible). So having a food-fest once in a while is probably good for resting our willpower muscles. I think you may be on to something. Plateaus are not very motivati...

Ladybird - what a very insightful application from the article. Indeed, I bet it is just as damaging. I think of how our self-criticisms undermine our habit-building on a regular basis. Neat about translating your NoS principles to your understanding of another human's limits for willpower. Yep. It's easier to have black and white rules, which I guess is very human of us.When it's just off limits, I can avoid all that.
