Yes, kettlebell does sound girlie, or at the very least whimsical. I'll never deny it. It's funny, you mentioned shoveglove sounding girlie, but both names describe the apparatus in plain language, that is shape and configuration, respectively. I was going to make a point, but I just had my two drin...

http://home.comcast.net/~joandbryce/bsquat.html This, especially the lopsided one, could be done with a shovelglove. http://danjohn.org/overhead.html This can be done with one or two hands. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/legpower.htm Don't be fooled by the bodybuilding garbage, this exercise is awe...

One week in
One week of NoS, five days of kettlebells, and I'm down from 198 to 196. I like eating at actual mealtimes, although I really have to work on getting dinner earlier. I just can't eat right after the kettlebell density sessions. I've also been walking around campus more, and at the feed store, too (c...

Yeah, it was funny stuff, so I'll count that as both a screwup and a lesson. Kevin's idea of only eating at meals, even on S-Days is a good one for me to apply. Thanks, all.

What I've been up to (2 KB long cycle)
This is one of the most feared movements in all of kettlebelldom: http://girevoysport.ru/lc.htm http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/221/ It should be noted that there are two styles of KB-ing: Hard and soft styles. Soft style is for competition, and includes techniques to let you keep lifting f...

Shane Hammond, the best male weightlifter (olympic lifting) the U.S. has to offer, spent his first 6 months of training just getting the movements and positions consistently correct with a broomhandle/dowel/stick. He now does the clean and jerk with over 500 pounds! While he had a tremendous base of...

Tuesday, 12-6-05 Surprise S-day, it turned out to be a favorite professor's birthday, so a bunch of us took him to dinner. There were chocolate covered cherries and cake and wings and beer...I was half-behaved. Wednesday, 12-7-05 Four meals, one of them very late. This was iffy. Thursday, 12-8-05 We...

Success, at least I'm pretty sure it was a success. I think I need more balance in my meals, though. Breakfast was five eggs, cheese, collard greens, and an orange; lunch was a can of salmon in tomato sauce, with some yogurt; and dinner was italian sausage on wheat toast with saurkraut and cheese, w...

Strongman
Good to hear from you, Reinhard! I won't be competing until at least next spring, and perhaps it will be pushed back to summer or fall. I have taken to just basically doing what I enjoy, which is kettlebells, lately. I realized my diet was in bad shape when I looked at the timing of my meals. Someti...

Is this a screw-up?
Tonight, with/slightly after dinner, I was parched, so I had an 8fl oz cup of frozen berries drizzled with grape juice. I excused it because I find it very refreshing and have never heard of anyone getting fat off berries. However, I wasn't sure, does this rate with drinking soda because of the grap...

Hi, Deb! The lifting is doing just fine. I have been doing mostly kettlebells because I really like them. As a consequence, my overhead lifting and pulling have improved a good deal for me(170# log is a working weight, and I have a nifty little 400# Deadlift last I checked). As far as the kettlebell...

Not to be trendy or anything, but one that really gets me wanting to shovelglove is Johnny Cash's "The Legend of John Henry's Hammer." It's almost visceral-I can be washing dishes and that song will come on and I'll want to pick up that 20#er.

For the weight of the sledge, you just count the head. I think for shugging, however, the handle+sweater could be counted. I guess Reinhard should be the one who calls it.

I told her I will be going on a diet, and she asked why, so I explained and she asked, "what diet?" So I told her about No S and she said very plainly, "so, you're just going to eat like a normal person?" Funny, I usually eat like 2-3 normal people. It's strange how a spouse can reveal things to you...

Egad!
I've gotten too fat. I don't have a full-on pot belly, but I do have an ever-thickening pad of fat that has begun to stick out and makes me very self-conscious. So, instead of blaming outside factors, I have decided to take control of myself again. The NosDiet seems the sanest and most achievable th...
