My wife bought me Julia Child's book this last week for my birthday. I sat and salivated all weekend looing at recipes. The Beef Burgundy makes my mouth happy thinking about it. I'm going to go through and cook a recipe once a month. One of the critiques of the book is the amount of butter and cream...

Water is overrated. I prefer Coca Cola...oh, wait??? But I do. Personally I kind of get a kick out of people who are carrying around a bottle of water constantly, particularly, since the building I work in has an ample number of drinking facets. At www.quackwatch.org they delve into the urban myth o...

Slim-fast. Not that the skakes are bad, or anything, it's just I was ready to eat the paint off the walls at the end of the day.

I am happy today...

Got both credit cards paid off, completely! One bank started with the, "Well sir you aren't the primary card holder..." I asked the friendly lady if she wanted the money or not. Got it paid!

Next is the $5000 hospital bill. That happens Monday.

Film dude, I have found that on this "diet" 1) breakfast is the most important meal of the day. No joke. And I don't mean a Slim-fast shake, or a bowl of Capn'Crunch, I mean a breakfast that is going to keep you full, i.e. eggs, sausage, wheat toast, oj, a big bowl of oatmeal (if you can stand it). ...

I have two problems with this study. First, mice are not humans. I always wonder how valuable these studies really are in predicting similar consequences in humans. Second, and more important, the lowcarb diet in this study was also high protein. Low carbs diets, at least done the Atkins way, are n...

Dumpster Diver? When I was 16 I worked at BK. One day I took the trash out. Some homeless dude was in the dumpster eating 1/2 a Whopper and drinking someone else's Coke. I didn't see him and dumped a can load of trash on him. Poor guy came jumping out of there. I took off running.

The worst thing you've ever tried while "on a diet"

This is true confession. I had read about a "tuna fast" (eat nothing but tuna, and drink water) on a bodybuilding board probably when the internet first started. So how long ago was this? 1994? 1995? So, I gave it a whirl. People were drinking "tuna shakes", (I couldn't have made that up if I'd want...

Thursday, all day, I took my 20 year old niece on an 10 mile hike, up and down an 11,000 ft mountain in Wyoming. I hadn't "peak bagged" this particular piece of geology in 5 years.

Still sore today, but it is good to know I am sstill fit enough to incure upon myself such pain.
