That style would probably allow you to put more stress on the bicep and less on the forearm, if that's what you want. I don't actually do flip lever very much since it's time consuming and I think other movements offer more bang for my buck.

I think keeping the handle of the hammer parallel with the forearm is how most people do it. Of course you could try various other grips to challenge your hand/wrist more.

Pilates is very unlikely to injure you. With a good Pilates instructor the only physical requirement for you to get started is that you can lie down on the floor and get up again. Like most things, the videos don't tell a complete story. Go try out a class--you might like it!

I've had very similar experiences when it comes to hunger. It's no more or less intense than thirst or fatigue and people don't usually freak out when they feel those sensations. You are right it's all about attitude and mindset. Keep it going!

My wife swears by the Pilates method, but don't start off w/videos--find a good instructor who can understand your needs. Swimming would likely be good as well. Tai Chi or Yoga might do the trick, but once again, I would recommend a -good- teacher and lots of patience.

A smoothie using the recipe Joel describes above is not a sweet.

A smoothie from Jamba Juice made with sherbet IS a sweet (IMO).

I don't even like to put vanilla yogurt in my smoothies because there is too much sugar. Plain yogurt gets the job done.

The protein does make a difference for me too. Walnuts and yogurt in my smoothie keep me pretty full.

James,

Pushups done on gymnastics rings. I set the ring height so they are almost on the ground then do fairly regular pushups while holding them. Ring pushups activate the stabilizer muscles even more than regular pushups and seem to be good for the shoulders.
