I'm not an expert and I'm sure we'll be hearing from some experts in this thread, but as I understood it we were supposed to take a break from thinking too much about our food on S-days, so that we can concentrate better on N-days. If you eat too much on S-days or too many of the wrong things, the c...

Check-in, Day 6

Day 6, Sunday 1/21: S-DAY Again, I kept it pretty reasonable. I reverted to my habit of grazing from the fridge, but didn't overeat outrageously. I had one sweet (a Danish at breakfast) that I didn't really even enjoy, although once I bought it, dangit, I felt that I had to finish it (got to work on...

I don't know that many French people, but I think they've been known to eat snacks, like a croissant or brioche au chocolat in the afternoon with coffee or tea. And what about the Nutella crepe stands all over Paris? They wouldn't exist if people didn't buy from them. Mireille Guiliano (the French W...

NoelFigart, I'm actually one of those freakish morning people too. I'm hungriest in the morning and if I don't eat enough before noon I'm more or less worthless. The upside is, no evening snack cravings because I'm usually too tired to think about food. I like to cook in the morning, but I know from...

Check-in, Day 5

Day 5, Saturday 1/20: S-DAY I'm not going to write down everything I ate. I had planned to let myself pig out if I wanted to, but to my surprise I was very, very sensible, until it all fell apart at my birthday dinner, where I'm sorry to say I ate until I felt sick. I have a terrible case of Clean P...

Thanks, Jan! There are some tasty-looking recipes in there.

I realize that nitpicking on grams of sugar and forbidden foods is contrary to the whole spirit of No-S, but I'm trying to figure things out and I want to get a good start.

Bread with something on it, that could work. I wouldn't be buying the muffins, I'd be baking them and keeping them in the freezer, so I could tweak the ingredients to make them healthier. But it might be easier to have bread (I bake my own bread too, the yeast-flour-salt-water kind milczar mentioned...

...and what about muffins? Other breakfast ideas?

I'm trying to think of more breakfast ideas, now that I really have to eat a full, proper breakfast. I'm wondering: are muffins off-limits? Is it OK to have a small, oat bran-apple muffin but not a big cakey blueberry muffin? Are muffins worth eating if they're not sweet enough to count as sweets? W...

Thanks, Jan! I know what you mean about losing the sweet tooth. I still have a weakness for some sweets, but most candy bars taste too sweet to me and so do sodas. When I followed the Zone Diet really strictly, I really noticed that I lost my taste for sugar. I felt good when I ate that way, but it ...

Check-in, Day 4

Day 4, Friday 1/19: SUCCESS (sort of/I think) Breakfast: plain yogurt, oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar, half a grapefruit, tea (PG Tips) with milk Lunch: Indian chickpeas with brown rice, some cashews, strawberry drinkable yogurt (awfully sugary, 42 grams--yikes!) Dinner: a rather large takeout se...

Newbie question: what counts as a sugary drink?

I'm having trouble deciding which drinks are sugary drinks and therefore off-limits during N days. I don't drink soda, but I was shocked to realize yesterday that the drinkable yogurts I love have 42 grams of sugar per bottle, ten grams more than a can of soda. No wonder I love them! I had been usin...

KCCC, yoga can be a great exercise if it's done at the right intensity. I've been doing it regularly for a year and a half, and sporadically for longer than that, and somehow (underneath the fat) I've developed abs like you see on commercials. I wouldn't say it's a substitute for aerobic exercise, b...

Check-in, Day 3

Day 3, Thursday 1/18: SUCCESS Breakfast: soysage, blueberry-strawberry yogurt smoothie, a little peanut butter straight from a spoon (I know this sounds bizarre, but this kind of eating pattern is a holdover from my years on the Zone diet), tea (Tazo chai with milk and a bit of honey) Lunch: small t...

Newbie question: What sorts of exercise do you do?

I'm working on my third day of this diet. I just started a checkin thread where I'll be posting my success or failure each day, along with a few notes on what I ate at each meal and any observations on how it's all going. I thought about adding UR to my checkin, but I walk every day because I live i...

Florafloraflora's check-in thread

Hi everyone, I stumbled across the No S Diet by way of Urban Ranger, by way of Mistress Krista's weightlifting page at http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php . It sounds awfully sensible to me, so I'm trying it. I have some questions and comments that I'll be posting later, but for now, here's my c...
