My one major regret after 12 years of No S

I have a few things that I wish I had possibly done differently with my eating earlier, but my only real regret doesn’t have to do with eating. It has to do with the fact that I did not include and continue with resistance exercise. That has cost me a fair amount of muscle that as an older person no...

Re: How do we know if we are hungry?

Cherish obvious signals, if you have them. IMHO, there is a big difference between the feeling of hunger that comes from a combination of the mostly hormones associated with it and that antsy feeling which I equate with drug withdrawal. But it can change as you age. It has for me. My first six years...

Re: The Blessings of Simplicity

I cannot depend on signals any more, though I have found that if I eat the right breakfast and an extremely small "lunch," more like a snack, I can be hungry for dinner, but it is not truly predictable. For years on Vanilla No S, I was able to gauge meals so that I was hungry, but older body systems...

A new leg in the journey! What constitutes hunger can be tricky. My regular cues subsided in 2016 and I have tried many adjustments along the way, the most significant being the recent one I instituted last July after seeing average blood glucose rise over the previous 18 months. It's harder than "d...

Re: Ted Talk

There is an organization that will help people get ready to pitch to do a Ted Talk, for a price. I don't know what that price is, but if I had a great message as coordinated as Reinhard's, I'd consider it. The guy doing the training is one who got started on Ted Talks because he had figured out a wa...

Hooboy, selling and moving. At least it's a seller's market. Have you ever thought of hiring a management company to rent it out? It can mean taking some money out to put down on a new house, but it can pay off, though if it's likely top of the market where you are leaving, it could take awhile. I j...

Good luck with labs. I am going to ask for some this month after a 3-month foray away from plant-based. I've read that it's really the Hdl/Ldl ratio that's more important than cholesterol, knock on wood. (Because mine was still ok last time, though not as good as it had been.) And low triglycerides ...

Pink hippie, good one about watching fitness DVDs while lounging. Ladybird, I do remember even when I was doing lighter weights, after a few weeks I felt a lot of pep in my step. Our brains really do have a set point (or range) in mind. I've also learned that different bodies have different fat plasticity. Oy! But I am not complaining. I realize I have it pretty easy compared to some. I'm not one of those naturally thin people, but it could be a lot worse.

Ladybird, thanks for that and it might be right for "regular" exercise. Another idea is to be willing to eat more at earlier meals and have lighter dinners. But have food you really want at dinner. I used to mix up planning with dieting, but a few times I've had to plan more carefully and it actually made it easier later to just look at my plan and pull out the food. I was trying to use up stores of what I had so the food was already there. This is making me think I should do that again...
