I read through some of the comments. It's telling that there were more than a few that warned that self acceptance should not mean accepting obesity, as if making peace with a less than idealized figure automatically gives one permission to gain 100 pounds.

I've found that I can be satisfied with less of a wholesome food than its processed counterpart. However, the wholesomeness of the food does not intrinsically limit the portion. I rely on the plate for that.

One of the unspoken assumptions behind the superiority of wholesome foods is that you don't need as much to be satisfied. A small serving of the fingerling potatoes will do you just as nicely as monstro-mcfries. Don't know if this is true. I like wholesome foods for reasons other than weight managme...

The SAD Life

Funny article about life on Weight Watchers. You could substitute any substance accounting diet (SAD). This part made me laugh: I also enjoy hearing members talk about weekly challenges, which often run along these lines: I went on a visit to my sister’s house and though she knew I was on plan and...

It's ok to fail. Really. Perfection is overrated. You just want the failures (or non-compliance) to be the exception and not the rule.

Would it be bad to accept it?

I think the idea is to disregard it completely. From the behaviors you described above (hours long bingeing, fixation on food, etc) your weight will do what it needs to do if you can build those healthy habits.

Habit first, weight second.

The book addresses this. Essentially, you pre-determine the number of meals you need to have and eat only then. So if you decide that five small meals (7, 10, 1, 4 and 7) keep your acid reflux managed then that is when you eat. No nibbling at 9AM or 3PM.

I would use a small plate, too.

Some suggestions. Remember, these are guidelines not rules. 1. Add weight bearing exercise i.e. shovel glove or weightlifting. 2. Start reducing the size of your plates.
