It could go either way. Root beer does taste sweet and have sugar, so it could be considered a sweet. But it's also a beverage, which a lot of people don't count. We feel more guilt about eating "bad" foods than the French or the Italians do. If that kind of food guilt were helpful in keeping weight down, we'd expect to see a higher rate of obesity in France and Italy than we do in the US. In fact, that is not what we see: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/he...

Re: No more food guilt for me!
Yesterday I was feeling particularly binge like. It is my normal pattern to do well (green) for 4 days and then fall off the wagon but I didn't. I really didn't! Now I didn't make the best choices yesterday as I had lasagna for lunch and I normally stay away from white pasta and for dinner in a rus...

Snacking is bad for your teeth
I was talking about No S with my dental hygienist today. About snacking, she said that, if you're going to eat five candy bars, it's better to do it all at once than to spread it out over the day. The reason for this is that, when you eat, sugars and starches in the food mingle with bacteria in your...

The important thing isn't your weight, or how your clothes fit. The important thing is to have a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. If you go on some other less-sustainable diet to lose weight, you'll lose the weight (maybe) ... then what? If that diet isn't something you can stay on for the rest of...

Re: Sugar Blues
Sweets are not mandatory on S days. I don't have sweets on a lot of my S days (I'm more of a "seconds" type of gal). No S never requires you to eat anything. What happens if you don't read labels to make sure things don't have sugar in them, but you just don't eat sweets? I could add: depressed, emo...

Noel, That was/is an excellent article, thank you. I think the only "exception" to this was ancient Rome. One way to show the difficulty of a weight-loss struggle is to show extremely fat people doing heavy exercise. The REAL weight-loss struggle is to reduce one's eating enough to lose weight, but watching people not eat would be like watching paint dry . Not too entertaining. I suppose No S in partic...

The Today Show was talking about the death of Jack LaLane (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong) earlier this week and they cut to a clip of Anne Curry interviewing him a few years ago. You done good! 2.5 times as many successes as failures. For every day you failed, there were two and a half days where you didn't.
